HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall running back Tron Martinez, the team's leading rusher in 2011, is done with football for the Thundering Herd.

The junior told his Twitter followers Monday afternoon that his Marshall career was over.

"im (sic) crushed," read one tweet, the next reading, "no more football, at marshall."

Marshall spokesman Jason Corriher said Martinez has been medically disqualified. His scholarship will be honored if he chooses to stay at Marshall.

Martinez gained 649 yards and scored three touchdowns on 160 carries two seasons ago, but knee problems kept him off the field in 2012. He underwent offseason knee surgery, and was on the field for the first day of preseason practice, but never played. Coach Doc Holliday said Sept. 18 that the running back's injuries would probably keep him out for the year.
