SHR I-77 shutdown

  • near Sissonville from a crazy gas pipe line explosion and fire. Its not know when it will reopen. I hope and pray all are well over there. Traffic is going to be a major problem.

  • WOW! If this would have happend on on Dec, 21st, a lot of people probably would have panicked.. Thank God no one was hurt..

    Made NBC Nightly News with pictures.. Hope the people and the Interstate can be functioning soon. Looked bad on TV with interstate damage.

  • Maybe its just the angle but that police car looks awfully close to the fire.

  • Maybe its just the angle but that police car looks awfully close to the fire. 

    I don't think it is the angle, and if you look close, cop is sitting in the drivers seat.

  • Was this on some kind of overpass?  If so, expect the interstate to be closed for a good long while.  We had a massive fire beneath an underpass here in Philly a few years ago.  The steel had become so hot from the fire that it was deemed unsafe (it became brittle).  They had to reengineer the entire span, have the steel made (not an easy feat now that steel mills in the US are few and far between) and then start construction.  Once construction started they worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to get it done.  But, I-95 was still closed for over 9 months in both directions.  :o

    No overpass...turned asphalt to gravel.  They are grinding off the burnt asphalt and replacing right now.  They are hoping it will reopen tomorrow evening.  Melted the guard rail on the side of the road.
