  • To be honest, it makes me sick to read about Boise success and our failures. Boise modeled their program after ours and now they have long past us up.. sickening to see how far we have fallen behind.

  • CBSSports.com reported last week that a Big East contract could be worth as little as $60 million per year. Industry sources are saying now that number could be as low as $40 million per year. If that's the case, that's an average of $1.85 million per year per school. Seventy percent of that number would be football revenue, or $1.29 million. The Mountain West currently pays between $2 million-$3 million per year to its schools, according to sources.

I hate it, but my animosity isn't directed at Boise. They copied our plan and carried it out. WE wrote the plan then ignored it. I respect Boise for succeeding, Kayo and maybe a few others I really dislike.

Being in a city with 4 times the population of Huntington helps.

  • This time last week, negotiations on the BE's contract with all the parties (media money), were on hold.  Reading between the lines, I think the BE doesn't want to know what the final offers are for it's TV contract.  Boise can get out of the BE if the money isn't right.  BE is hoping that if it puts negotiations on hold long enough, Boise will forget about exiting the BE.  (BE's head is in the sand.)

    Good Night BE

  • We will probably see how smart Boise is in the near future.  Boise has worked so hard and made many good decisions to build a very good program.  But IMHO, if they stay with the BE, they are making a huge mistake.  I can think of many cons but no pros.

  • About reentering the MAC, I don't think that will ever happen.  Among may reasons for this not happening is, the MAC would never invite us to join.  They hate us.  IMHO

  • About Boise following our model?  There are old articles from their athletic administration saying they want to duplicate what Marshall did.  I think they out together a better plan and better Implementation of that plan as well.  Everybody has 100 excuses as to why we lost our steam, probation, Snyder, marcum and so on.  I think being in the WAC instead of the MWC with TCU helped them.  Smaller conference, less week in and week out competition, beat one good AQ program a year and make a BCS bowl.

I never saw the write up for this plan, but would like to.  We hired a couple good coaches in a row.  Caught lightening in a bottle with a new stadium, 3-4 really good quarterbacks, Moss, and a really weak Division 1 conference in the MAC.  Then after some highs, gravity grabbed hold and we lost a coach, hired a bad coach and got put on probation.  Who wrote this plan that we just blatantly ignored.

I'm not sure that the MAC wouldn't want us.  They hate us, and we hate them.  The last time I checked that was the definition of a rivalry.  That is what puts people in stands or young kids following on electronic media.  That being said, that is just  my opinion (which is backed by the sixth largest crowd in the Joan's history at the OU game this year).

We are stuck in pseudo-I-AA land in the new C-USA.  Our only hope is that rational programs like Houston decide to return to C-USA in light of the crappy TV deals the Big Least is seeing.   Unfortunately, C-USA and Hamrick seem to have been in such a rush to fill up the slots in C-USA with I-AA teams that the teams that jumped may not want to come back to play in a watered down C-USA if the Big East implodes.

  • My best guess is that two elite mega mid-major conferences will arise.  One a reconstituted MWC will be formed with Boise, BYU, SDU and the western cusa schools.  The other a reconstituted CUSA with the eastern members and the best of the rest of the left behind eastern mid-majors.

I agree, and I want to puke when I look at who the "left behind eastern mid-majors" are.  We should be in such a better position, if Kopp would have stayed out of the mix eight years ago.

  • It sounds good to not think about conference realignment.  But it is so important to us.  In the next six months, we will either be one of the elite eastern mid-majors or a left behind "also ran".  Our program will grow or wither. IMHO

  • +1 Cincy & ThMD.  Whatever happens, we MUST be involved in the east coast's new conference version of the MWC.  As of now, it appears we are being left out.  The longer it takes for the 4 super 16 to poach UCONN and UC, the more time young/weak foorball programs(but are much better shape with overall enrollment, money, market) will have to jump line in front of MU.

  • Boise also has the backing of a mega corporation, but I can't remember which one.  I think it was Weyerhauser or some other one that is involved in the paper industry.  Sort of like what Ashland Oil did for us until they bugged out a few years ago..

  • Our hope is that ECU, UCF, etc. form up a new league and we get invited.  I agree there will be two really good "Mid Major" conferences out of this deal. East and West and the Texas schools will be part of one or the other.  The rest will be in a lower level, pseudo IAA leauges, like the MAC, Sunbelt, and new CUSA. The new CUSA with the addition of ODU, UNCC, UTSA, FLI, FLA, is nothing more than a grown up IAA league.

For those railing on the new Big East tv contract. If their contract is going to be that bad then, what do you think our new tv contract will be like? it will be even lower.

ECU, UCF, etc. knew what they are doing. They either get the Big East as it is with the basketball schools. Or, there is a split and they form a new stronger football conference. ECU is not going to hang around in a league with ODU, UNCC, etc.
