  • Was reported on WSAZ that Snyder is trying to get the Kent job.   Surely they are smarter then that....

  • What is he thinking? I would imagine that he's making more at his current job. I guess in that world egos take over and they think that they have to be a head coach.

  • Speaking of recycled-head coaches, Skip Holtz may be heading back to C-USA--at La Tech?

  • I agree exanimate.  Why would he leave a team that has a Heisman trophy winner coming back and one that knocked off the number one team in the country.  I have to agree with someone that said it must be ego.

  • Mark was a terrible coach here, but he's had two solid coordinator stints since. If has earned another shot at HC I hope he does well. He is still a Son of Marshall.

  • Wasn't Kent State one of the schools he went to prior to playing his senior season at MU? He could hit up all the schools he attended to be head Coach. Look out Mike Gundy and whoever the JC coach is at Snyder's Oklahoma JC.... Then tan man is gunning for your jobs.

  • If he gets this job, we will see him in 2015 at Kent State and 2017 in Huntington.  This could make for some interesting story lines.

  • I would think, that if a person was a offensive or defensive coordinator at a big time program, then you would just be a little patient and if your good enough to stay there for several years, then bigger jobs would be available to you than Kent St. (e.g. Bob Stoops, Mark Richt, etc...).  These men waited until the right job came along before and a big opportunity was offered them.  I would think that if coach Snyder just waited a bigger opportunity would present itself than Kent St.  But if he goes, the best of luck to him.

I am sure he has set professional goals to be a successful head coach and most likely it is at a major program. This is where the payoff will ultimately come. As in many careers you have to take your lumps and bumps to eventually get to where and what you want to be doing. The stint in Huntington wasnt to successful however as someone pointed out he has put some more experience on his resume since. It may work out for him and I hope that he becomes successful. IMO I think his style might fit well and succeed in the MAC.

  • If memory serves me correct, he wanted to go to Kent after moving on from OSU. They denied him admission and he then ended up at MU. Someone may know the story in better detail but I think thats how he ended up here.

  • If Snyder learned anything at Marshall, it's that what he's doing now isn't bad at all. He's getting paid a lot more than what he'll get at Kent State and coaching what he knows best. But, the allure to move back to his home state and his roots to run his own program may be too much to turn down.

  • I guess I’m about to pick up a whole slew of additional negative Karma points, but I simply disagree with the prevailing sentiment of this thread.

I don’t think Snyder is going to become a highly successful head coach that is going to advance to a successful career at a major institution.

College football coaching is a highly competitive career where the best reach incredible heights of reward, both financial and psychological. For every Bear Bryant, Urban Meyer, or Nick Sabin there are dozens if not hundreds of Mark Snyders. In my opinion Snyder is a perfectly good coordinator; however he doesn’t have the brains or imagination to be a highly successful head coach. Any school giving Mark Snyder a head coaching gig is simply demonstrating the Peter Principal. Snyder could have a long successful career as a number two man; however he’s dedicated to making a fool of himself and any school willing to hire him as head coach. The Bryant’s, Meyers, and Sabin’s are idolized and rewarded almost beyond belief; the Mark Snyder’s are quickly forgotten.

Of course as a supporter of Marshall and hater of most MAC schools, and given that we’d probably be playing against Mark Snyder coached teams, I’m highly supportive of Snyder for the Kent State opening.

  • If he gets the job at Kent State, I hope he is a great success.  He wasn't here, but then again, neither is Doc.

  • If he learned from his mistakes he could be good.  But not everyone is cut out to be a head coach.  Someone needs to tell John L. Smith that.  As for Snyder, if he wants out from where he is it has to be pride.

  • I hope he does well. Sometimes it comes down to dice rolls in coaching and maybe Snyder just got some bad throws of the die cast his way. I wish him well.

Plus, I want to see them scheduled just for old times sake. :D

I don't think so. It's not like Snyder was a great X's and O's guy. I remember his coaching costing us just as much as the lack of talent.
