I guess I’m about to pick up a whole slew of additional negative Karma points, but I simply disagree with the prevailing sentiment of this thread.
I don’t think Snyder is going to become a highly successful head coach that is going to advance to a successful career at a major institution.
College football coaching is a highly competitive career where the best reach incredible heights of reward, both financial and psychological. For every Bear Bryant, Urban Meyer, or Nick Sabin there are dozens if not hundreds of Mark Snyders. In my opinion Snyder is a perfectly good coordinator; however he doesn’t have the brains or imagination to be a highly successful head coach. Any school giving Mark Snyder a head coaching gig is simply demonstrating the Peter Principal. Snyder could have a long successful career as a number two man; however he’s dedicated to making a fool of himself and any school willing to hire him as head coach. The Bryant’s, Meyers, and Sabin’s are idolized and rewarded almost beyond belief; the Mark Snyder’s are quickly forgotten.
Of course as a supporter of Marshall and hater of most MAC schools, and given that we’d probably be playing against Mark Snyder coached teams, I’m highly supportive of Snyder for the Kent State opening.
