  • Full time police or some kind of armed security has to be placed at every school in the country RIGHT F'N NOW.

    %^&* like this is ridiculous.

And here's an idea to pay for it.

Stop the unwinnable war on drugs.  Use that money.

  • Man this is just sickening. So senseless.

Schools need to have armed security officers with metal detectors. He'll, the ghetto schools already have this. Time for all schools to get full security.

  • Armed guards?  Really?  Have our kids grow up in a "armed state"?  That's the answer?

If that's the answer we are doomed as a society.

  • Definitely will be sending up lots of prayers for the families. It is especially hard at this time of year.

If there was a simple solution to this kind of problem, it would have been found a long time ago.

That won't stop people from looking for or proposing simplistic solutions.

Society is already sliding down the crap hole.  If armed guards is what it takes then thats what it takes.  I went to school in the late 70/s early 80's....I had a teacher that traded guns right in the classroom.  People in those times didn't shoot each other like they do today.  So "society" has changed and changes need to be made........

    Prayers to all involved.....

  • Sickening indeed, I was sitting in the Subaru dealership waiting for my shuttle home when I first heard and it tore me up.  I'm not one to shed tears but it's safe to say I did then as did everyone else in the waiting area...so sad.  My thoughts and prayers are already out and will continue to go out for all those involved in this horrible event..  :'(

Same here.  Thinking of the kids and the fact that they are saying that the shootings were in a kindergarten room brings tears to my eyes as well.

  • Just went through prep for colonoscopy, and my stomach was not as upset then as it is now.  No way to describe this; and worry that soon my grandkids will be afraid to even go to school.  My oldest one was last time a shooting happened, now know she will be very upset again.

Prayers to the family of all those kids and adults.

Yet I don't want armed guards at our public schools, something else has to work.

  • Heartbreaking to see and learn of this. Children and teachers deserve protection. I have no problem with armed guards. This country is out of control!

They have armed guards at all federal buildings, major sporting events. and most big BANKS....We protect the money but won't protect the kids....

This is not the same world or country that your grandparents or parents grew up in.  Its a different place now..

It is most certainly a different place.  But, even you have to admit that simply saying "guns don't kill people, people do", and armed guards everywhere is also far too simplistic of an answer.  We need wide-sweeping changes that includes changes in healthcare (fed and state support mental hospitals AGAIN) and stricter access to ANY weapon that can be used in mass executions.

Enough of this... prayers and thoughts to everyone involved... and to all of us affected.

  • What about personal accountability?  I don't want my children growing up in a police state.  The bigger issue is that society is raising a generation of children that if they don't get their way there is a reaction.  It starts very young with everyone getting a participation trophy for sports and not keeping score.  Children need to be taught that you can't alwyas get your way and that there are consequences for your actions.

  • Certainly shooting children is sick, but hunting down a parent with the intent of killing them is equally frightening.

The shooter was clearly a seriously troubled person. I'm at a loss when considering ways to identify such people and still have a free society. I just don't think there's a way to predict who is going to do things like this, no matter how much we wish there were.

I have to agree and Brian Williams said the same thing on NBC when I was watching earlier.  He basically said that you could have an armed guard and metal detectors but when there's someone that is this twisted and is possessed to do so that they will find a way to do it no matter what.  It's sad, and I really just don't know that there is a way to stop things like this.

If you put an armed guard and a metal detector at every possible site, then the first thing the person intent of killing multiple people is going to do is shoot the guard. So then what do you do put two guards at every site?

At some point you have more guards than workers.

  • Hoping the family's can find comfort in whatever Deity that gives them comfort. My prayers that they can find it. This is a horrible event.

  • On a day like today, Sports seem so small. And they really are. This is the most sickening news story in a long long time. Prayers to the families and community affected by this matter. This is such a tragedy and this madness needs to stop.

  • Three years ago, I would have just been like "Wow, this world is a crazy place", and I would have felt horrible for the victims and their families, but now I have two children of my own and I'm seeing this totally different than I would have before. One of my children is 14 months and the other will be 3 in January. When I heard this news this morning, my heart sunk and I was (and still am) sick to my stomach. This one hits very close to home. All I can think about is how much I love my children and what these poor families must be going through. I've been hugging my babies extra tight today.

I remember watching coverage of the Columbine shooting with the blood stained exterior walls where the kids had climbed out windows and all of the gruesome sights that the media showed. Being one year removed from high school myself at the time, it hit close to my heart. All I could think about was how the victims were around my age and what an awful thing this had to be for kids my age to experience.

My thoughts of the Columbine tragedy were thoughts of sadness and fear. My thoughts today were totally different. When I look at the footage of the parents carrying their surviving baby away from the school with terrified looks on the children's faces and the daddies hugging tightly to their babies as they carry them home, I just feel awful.

I think about the families who are going to have to go home and look at the stocking on the mantle with the name of their baby who won't be waking up bright and early on the 25th to see what Santa left in it. I think about how every time I look around me there is some kind of reminder of my babies. These parents will have to go home to pictures on the walls, school work on the fridge, empty cars eats and booster seats in their cars, bikes that won't be ridden anymore sitting in their garages, fruit snacks in the pantry that won't be eaten, and memory upon memory of their baby who won't be coming home. I hope and pray that all these parents realize that Jesus Christ loves the little children and I hope they find comfort in knowing that around 9:30 this morning, he was waiting there to take each of these precious babies in his arms.

24 hours ago, I was on here complaining about wvu pictures on a restaraunt wall, and little did I know that something horrible like this was going to happen that puts into perspective what life is really about. I'm sure many of you feel the same way.
