  • A lot of you who know me personally will probably not believe this, but the ol' hillbilly has made some major changes in his life in the last few months. Changes including getting right with Jesus Christ. I'm a new man and firmly believe 2 Corinthians 5:17 (Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.) Not trying to start a debate or argument at all by posting this, I just have a question for you guys.

Myself and a few friends have started a ministry in the Charleston area called "People of Hope". What we do is reach out to homeless by going into their domains with hot meals, warm clothes, and love. We don't sit in the comfy confines of a soup kitchen and hand them a bowl (although nothings wrong with that, we just dig a little deeper). We go trample through mud on cold nights under the bridges and on the river banks in the Charleston area. We feel as if we go humbly into their tent camps and living quarters, that they will view us as friends and be more open to the love and message we are trying to share and so far, this has truly been the case. The kanawha valley homeless community, for the most part, has opened up to us and view us as friends rather than random volunteers. We provide them with boots, warm clothes, tobaggans, gloves, toiletries and food (just in case you feel the leading to donate).

I told you all of that to get to my question. We are considering taking our ministry into Huntington. I'm the only one of us who is even remotely familiar with Huntington. I know I've seen a few homeless folks wondering around the flood wall at Harris Riverfront Park, but do you guys know of anywhere else where they may hang out or live.

I ask that you only respond in this thread if you have suggestions of where we may find homeless folks. Please don't turn this into a religious debate, political debate, and please don't make the typical comments about enabling them with "handouts". Thanks in advance guys.
