No, we have never had 3 4 stars.  Doc's recruiting is on another level.

The 20 years of winning records, and having the winningest program in the nation in the '90s, never required fours star or even many three star players. We are not losing in this sub par conference because of the number of stars associated with the recruits. I welcome these recruits and look forward to their contributions to Marshall's success. But let's not get too giddy over a potential that has historically never been required to be a winner in a mid major conference.

The reason for not winning has nothing to do with stars. If Doc transforms into a good head coach, and these young men become well coached Herd players with strong fundamental skills and dedication and attitude for winning, then all will be good.

actually espn and scout had Taj Letman (our new DB recruit) as 4 stars.  ruvals has him as a 5.7 rating...which just misses the 4 star cut off.  4 stars is 5.8

so you could in fairness say we have FOUR 4 star recruits....

Imagine what talent Doc could bring in if we were more successful on the field.  Would translate to more TV coverage, more butts in the bleachers.  This staff must have one hell of a sales pitch to lure this type of talent to come here in our current state.  Hopefully, it will translate to wins soon for him.

We were heavy in on this kid last year and he opted for sign and place instead of prop.  Hindsight is always 20/20 but had he went with his gut to begin with we would have him in August.

Well I wasn't solely meaning this particular guy, it was a comment in recruiting overall.  In this case, even if as you say there were no AQ options available to him, I'm sure there are other non-AQ options.  He chose the herd.  Hopefully, it'll work out.

I think they ask the recruit the schools that he is considering and he lists them.....I'm sure tons of other schools are looking at him....They just didn't make his list....

Committed to SMU last month. Wasn't going to be able to get in/qualified.

All of this means nothing until this staff proves they can coach them and win ball games. We had superior talent to many of our losses last year, including UAB, ECU and Ohio. Still lost those games.

He doesn't have to. All I'm saying is that we will need someone to replace the production down the road. It won't be next year, but looking at the roster we will still need an outside receiver in 2014.
