  • Some grasp the coaching turnover we have had recently as being due to negative issues and that we lose more than we gain.  Granted, some need to be negative and look for things to rally around, even past disappointments even given a brighter future, but consider:

    Gone --

    Rippon - 'nuff said

Peterson - Left for a true OC slot.  Other choice was to remove Legg from OC, months after he led one of the top offenses in the country, and put Peterson in that place. Will (might?) miss him as QB coach.  Legg will take over there...Might be even better for the play caller and coach to get on the same page.

Parker - Enjoyed success here as WR coach.  Parlayed that into a  position in the Big Ten.

Wade - Seems that many here think he underperformed as OL coach anyway.

Midget - Hardly counts - in and out.  Reportedly got $150k more at PSU.  Good for him. Will be hard to miss him since he probably never even met a single player here.

Miday - S&C. Attached himself to Bobby Petrino's star at WKU.  Petrino looks to be putting together a strong staff, including ex- MU coach and L'ville DC Mike Cassity.  A good move, IMO.  Wilks followed him there.

Pollard - Think most here wanted him gone anyway (CB coach).  Went to his Alma Mater, So Miss.

Not as well publicized, but we also lost our Ass't Head Trainer to a Head Trainer slot at IL and our HS relations director went to UTC, his Alma Mater

Hard to say any of these guys were rats leaving a sinking ship.  With a new DC in place and given past performance, Pollard was probably gone anyway.  Others elevated themselves.

    Gets --

Heater > Rippon.  A real coup.

Mirabal - OL.  Led FIU's OL to a top ranking in the Sunbelt and national recognition on ESPN.  Brought along highly touted recruit Sandley Jean-Felix as a flip from FIU. Excellent Miami area/So FL recruiting contacts (past Ass't HC at FIU, a title usually reserved for top recruiters - perhaps backup in case we someday lose Seider).

Fuller - Believed to be LB coach.  Very successful DC at UTC, some thought he would be a candidate for Heater's slot.  Big upgrade over Ripon coaching LB's. Could step into DC role in future?

Sinclair - Looks to be a very solid hire for S&C from UCF.  Highly decorated.

Gonzales is a reported target/option for receiver's coach which could be an upgrade over Parker.  Still have TEs and/or Special Teams, either of which may be covered by a current coach in place.  No reason to think the upgrade trend won't continue unless we are running low on funds with the current hires.

This along with another top level recruiting class, including Props, Jucos, and transfers who may see the field immediately, are reasons, not excuses, to be positive going into Spring Practice and a re-tooled CUSA in the Fall.

  • If we get Gonzales (which I doubt), we will have 3 coaches from the Meyer Florida championship teams.

Good point.  That's gotta be a good thing in terms of both coaching and recruiting.

Gonzales off to Mississippi State. They had to move a coach to administrative to make room for him. It seems Wisconsin was on him too.

  • In 12 years we have had 1 winning season. Holliday says its a player driven game. I think a staff has to make adjustments to win. UAB put in an entire new game plan in for us this year and we never had any idea how to make any adjustments to their new game plan and we lost to an inferior team.

I know you mean well with your post but please spare me the upgrade in staff, it's time to put up or shut up. This is Holliday and his EER staff buddies 4th year. Put up or shut up. Oh and by the way, make an adjustment sometime, it's an adjustment driven game.

  • Funny! We had winning seasons in 2011 and 2009......2001 was a 11-2 season...2002 was 11-2...2003 was 8-4 ......2004 was 6-5 until a bowl loss in which I froze my butt off..

  • I do believe there is a solid contingent here who will never forgive Doc for being a WVU grad.  I have not always been unicorns and rainbows...I am a Big Green chapter rep who quit donating under Snyder and Kayo, but I see improvement under Doc...Now he needs to work with his qualified coordinators who will call the game according to circumstance.

Does it count as as adjustment if we figure it out before the next time we play UAB?

  • LOL, we made adjustments? My only problem with a WVU based staff is believing. If a persons entire professional career is based upon saying an in state rival isn't worthy to be in the same state it's hard to change those beliefs deep inside. You have to believe. Believing is critical to success in difficult circumstances. Remember when we used to WIN every close game rather than saying we made adjustments just too late but lost?

Now back to those adjustments. Tell me just when did the staff  decied to make those to LOSE the game?  :P

Facts are pretty clear. Losing by 7 or 47 results in the same outcome. At the end of the season, to a mid major trying to get bowl eligible, it isn't by how much you lose, it is only that you lose that matters. I take that back, losing by 7 instead of 27 is sort of not losing if we just dump the whole concept of losing in favor of feelings.

  • Saying that assistant coaches who worked for their Alma Mater for years bashed Marshall is hilarious.  Just because someone works for a rival doesn't make them animals.  It appears to me that Doc Holliday has given every ounce of his energy to making MU a better program and winner again since his very first day on the job.  He is proud enough to be here to let the City of Hurricane align him with MU by putting up a sign stating that Hurricane is the home of MU Head Football Coach, John "Doc" Holliday.  It doesn't say past player and assistant coach at WVU.....................give him a break. He is doing a better job than many of you would have projected; and unfortunately even perhaps hoped.  His success seems to be some of your disdain. I just don't get it.

  • You guys do realize that Doc coached at NC State and Florida, too, right?  I get the WVU hate.  I really do.  However, if anyone thinks Doc is doing anything other than bust his a$$ 100% every single day for Marshall, you're crazy.  When you coach at ________, you're a ________ guy.  It's as simple as that.  Coaches aren't fans.  They're coaches.  Coaches coach for the school that employs them.

You guys should try to get behind Doc.  Let's see what we do this year.  There's a great chance we rack up wins.  Even if you dislike him, why not give him a chance?  It's more fun.  I essentially rooted against Snyder in his last year because I knew we needed change.  It was awful.  Rooting for your team to win is fun.  If we don't win this year, it's on Doc and the staff.  I just think we should wait to see what happens.  I think people are going to be surprised at how good this team could be.

  • If the football team is getting better, we should win 10 games this year. If you don't agree with the number 10, what 3 teams SHOULD beat us?

  • Holliday is an improvement over the previous coach, I'm not arguing that point. Even if Vingle writes that w previous coach laughs best in the end, he wasn't ready to be a HC at the time of his appointment.

I'm arguing believing in the Marshall mystique we once had. The ability to score twice in 70 seconds comes to mind.
