  • In my nearly 40 years, I have never dealt the race card on anyone.  Booherd is DAMNED close to deserving the race card at this point.  Would he be this critical of a white kid from Tennessee with the same numbers?  Just a thought.  Not trying to stir the pot or anything. ;D

That's not it, he's just one of those guys that has to be negative and take the opposite stance. There are a few of them here.

  • Congrats to Cato. I saw him at the basketball game being honored for having a 3.0+ gpa.

There are tons of things you can complain about right now, however, this is for sure not one of them.  If there is any reason to have hope in Marshall athletics, it is because of number 12.

To me, thatsa even more impressive than his QB stats. Its hard for a D1 athlete to do well in the classroom, those who do deserve all the kudos they get. Congrats to the young man.

The kid is good, he has a winners attitude, he wants to be here and does well in the classroom. How anyone can argue with that is beyond me. He is the best thing to happen to MU football in years. And he has two more seasons left.

And NO DOUBT on this.  To hear the young man talk, you'd never guess this.

  • I'll say it.  Cato will go down as the best ever to suit up for The Herd.  He will break EVERY record.  Had we had a defense this year, I wouldn't be the only one saying this.  Some are so blinded by the losses that they can't see how great a player that Cato actually is.

Actually, I believe his stats would have been less had we had even an average defense.  If he had the luxury of a lead, where we could run the ball to eat time and ice the game.  Having had to constantly play catch up or regain the lead, he had to sling it often.  So no defense would likely pad his stats.

  • Ha, ask a draft expert where they project cato. Racism, lol!  Hell I'll blame it on the offensive play calling. With our defense,1+ turnovers a game from qb position will not cut it! That's all I'm saying, plus the hyperbole is getting a little ridiculous.

No draft expert has even taken a look at Cato.  He's a true sophomore right now.  Talk about hyperbole.  Further, his draft status is irrelevant to the idiotic position that he threw too many interceptions.

Just admit you don't know what you're talking about.

Hey retard, to say nfl has not scouted him yet, could be the dumbest thing ive heard to date.

Let's ask Saban, or Kelly or any other successful coach how those turnovers work in our favor! Geez open your eyes, the turnovers are a problem.

  • they said "Of course he’s at an advantage playing in the C-USA compared to a BCS conference"

really? perhaps he doesn't have bcs receivers to throw to, or a bcs offensive line to block for him.....the theory goes both ways.

  • Booherd is out of line with the name calling. Have some class man.

As much as I like Cato and thinks he's a great kid. His size will not help him in the NFL. He'd really have to bulk up and improve his deep ball to get a look. Now the Canadian League - I could easily see him doing well there.

Hey, I am just going to relish his next two seasons here. If he continues to improve and stays healthy, he'll have a damn fine career at MU and leave as one of our best QB's of all time.

One of the easiest ways to know when someone loses an argument on the internet?...they start name calling.

Look man, I don't think Cato is a great QB either...YET!  However, I have a feeling he will be.  His growth between year one and two was nothing short of amazing.  It looked like a completely different kid out there.  He does have some things he needs to work on, but you expect that from a true sophomore QB.  Like many have said he has trouble with the deep ball, however you also have to remember that the kid was a 6'0" weakling when he came here.  He bulked up considerably during the off season and that will cause throwing issues.  He'll get it under control with some practice.  He also has some decision making issues and he doesn't always know where he's at on the field.  I have posted this on here several times.  I saw at least two times last year where he ran with the ball and when he got the first down he stopped running.  If you want to complain about something he did wrong, then complain about that.  11 ints in 584 attempts is an interception percentage of 1.88%.  You're telling me that isn't acceptable?  WOW...you set the goal really high dude.

If Cato can fix the FEW issues he has the nation will certainly take notice regardless of his size or which conference he is in.  I'm excited to see how he plays against VT this year.  I'd be willing to bet that he picks them apart.

Everyone on here needs to quit being so damn negative all the time.  I have seen enough negative things happening on the field and the hard wood.  We need some positive things to happen around here so quit trying to drag down the few good things we have.  This team is on an upswing.  When Doc was hired I said it would be his fourth year when we'd see the fruits of his labor.  That time is now!  We have two VERY talented QB's, 3 exceptional running backs and a deep group of talented receivers.  With the help coming on defense, I believe the pieces to the puzzle are finally here.  Hopefully we'll see Coach Heater finish that puzzle.

If I'm a "retard" then it doesn't say much for you when one compares my punctuation and grammar to yours.

Here's the link to the NCAA's passing efficiency statistics:

    http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1030

Froh's one pick is included, so it's not a completely accurate representation. It also only accounts for the regular season, so many of the listed quarterbacks have even more picks.  As you'll note, if you take a look and can understand what the numbers say, even with the most attempts in the nation, by far, we we're 23rd in efficiency.  Moreover, you can also see that in 607 attempts we threw 12 interceptions.  12.  Total.  Less than 2% of our throws were intercepted.

I guess we can ignore the 37 TD passes, the great completion percentage, the fact that we put the ball at risk more than any other team in the nation (tips, drops into DB's hands, batted balls:  all things that caused some of our amazingly small number of interceptions this year), the fact that Cato lead the nation in yards as a true sophomore, and everything else and merely state that "interceptions are bad" and claim I'm a "retard" to "win the argument."  Interceptions certainly don't help.  However, any reasonable football fan with any type of understanding of how the game is played now can EASILY see that Cato took remarkable care of the ball.

Moreover, to rebut your ridiculous assertion that Cato's draft status is somehow determined already.  Not that it's even close to relevant to your "Cato throws too many interceptions argument," but outside of a few scouts looking at Cato while watching Dobson's tape or watching one of our games live for entertainment, no one has looked at Cato with any substance yet.  Not even close.  Why?  He's not draft eligible.  He's a true sophomore.  Pro scouts have to fill their time scouting actual players that are eligible for the draft.  They don't just randomly scout every single player in the nation.  I work in a law firm that has licensed NFL agents.  Have you ever talked to an actual pro scout?  Do you have any idea how any of this even works?  I'll go ahead and answer "no" for you so we don't have to discuss this anymore.

You can claim I'm a "retard" if it makes you feel better.  That's fine.  I don't take any offense to it and actually think it's funny.  However, what does offend me is your silly and baseless attacks on one of the greatest hopes this football program has seen in 10 years.  Cato's year was a masterpiece statistically.  Anyone that says otherwise has an agenda or simply doesn't understand the game.

Wanna ask Saban about those twelve fumbles? Does that mean our QB, running backs and WRs are better because they had eight?

Tulsa not very good with 24 turnovers? I mean that's more than us so they should be struggling right?

Hell next you're going to tell me Hugh Freeze ain't much a coach because Ole Miss had 29 turnovers?

Fact is yes Cato had 11 picks. I can point to two at Purdue being WR faults. Anyone else got picks were it was wrong WR routes or bobbles into corners hands? It is a TEAM game not just one guy. Cato will only improve. Superstar now? Not yet. NFL potential? Maybe as a late round/free agent and that's ok. Been some greats in college that didn't transition over.

Pick 6 at Southern Miss in the first half. Ball tipped off Booker's hands on a screen pass and the corner caught it in stride. Completely Booker's fault.

  • So we are at 7 interceptions at the fault of the QB right now... Pretty good?

Booherd I know I know, you'll resond to this probably how many TDs did he throw that the WRs made big plays on for the TDs. Not the point. Point is, choice wise and efficiency in his control he was pretty solid for a true soph

  • As a team we threw the ball 607 times...with 12 interceptions......thats an int every 50.58 passes......and about half of those 12 were WR fault....I'll take those stats but its a shame most of those picks caused us to lose several close games last season

  • All the underwhelming Quarterbacks that will go in the first 3 rounds goes to show that the demand for QB's is high and even though they had sub par seasons like Barkley and a few others( not to mention the pathetic Senior Bowl performances by all of them accept EJ Manuel) goes to show that teams are looking to develop Quarterbacks not necessarily get a guy that was awesome in college because honestly this years QB's in the draft are not that special.

  • I like this article, Cato deserves a ton of credit. I'm curious of what this year brings at QB sans Petersen.

If Cato is our next legend, my only question is did anyone see Frohs performance at ECU ? Might we have 2 legendary QB s in our midst?

He kicked arse coming off the bench cold.

The improvement we saw at offense last year was encouraging. Defense and coaching must improve this year.
