  • In talking to some Memphis fans last night before AND after the game. They will tell you that Memphis is playing better right now than at anytime since Pastner has been the head coach. I believe they brought their "A" game.

Have you watched any Memphis games recently? They played a lousy 2nd half and their 1st half was average. They still won by double digits plus they had foul trouble.

  • I think the chasm exists due to lack of a true point guard. Trying to play basketball without a true point guard is like playing football without a QB.

That said Herrion needs to bring in a doctor of some sort to work on free throws.

It's been a very disappointing year that for sure, I'm not arguing that. I don't like personal attacks on the team and players though.

  • Remember folks, we have some fans that are 100% apologist. They defend poor play, poor coaching, and make excuses for lack of effort, poor execution, and any other thing that goes wrong. Live with it and don't get so upset. I was at the game and we stink. Memphis, IMO, did not bring its A game or it would have been worse.  Some will agree, some won't. No big deal.

Yes, I have seen every Memphis game since we last played them. I think they brought their game. Look at their shooting percentage in the first half until we finally started palying defense. Also look that the rebounding. I saw nothing lacking in Memphis last night.

That was not really the chasm I was referencing. You said you believe the players give all that they have to give which is only enough to produce a losing record. Kane says we are the best team in CUSA but that the reason we don't look like we are is because the players and coaches are not executing, they don't know the plays, they make poor shot judgement.

How do you both give it all you have and yet reflect what Kane is saying about the team. Unless, I suppose, the best that we have to give is what he said we are doing.

Anyone that thinks that Memphis is 40 points better (at their best) from Marshall (at their best) doesn't know a d#$% thing about basketball.  The 12 point margin is about right.

  • any team could beat us by 40 points right now the way we have been playing....i se these anti herion and anti basketball posts all the time and usually just ignore them but some of you pepople are just out of the loop if you think these guys actually care at this point you are in lala land...IMO i think herion needs to be gone if you cannot put a team together that works hard from the first whistle to the last and atleast gives the effort then you need to be fired. this is the worst basketball team ive seen in a while, i know a lot of people here like to give excuses but there are none for this team.

They ARE giving effort.  The problem isn't their energy exertion - the problem is that a lot of the guys aren't in the right place. Or that a lot of guys continue to make mental mistakes.  Or that a lot of guys still can't shoot a dang free throw.  Or that a lot of guys forget 6th grade fundamentals.  That's not "effort", although having someone cut through a defense like butter for an easy dunk may look like "effort", when its actually "misplacement".

I've come to the conclusion its not Tom.  I thought it was for most of the season, but after analyzing this team over 25 games, I've concluded that some of them are just not very basketball smart.  Now, you CAN blame Tom for recruiting such or for not 'changing' them into fundamentally sound players, but when a player that is a SOPHOMORE continues to have no idea where to go during specific offensive plays... or  SENIOR big man continues to fail to box out on rebounds or a JUNIOR tries a turnaround 3 with an opposing player draped on him.... Well, there is only so much you can coach.  Again, the buck stops with Tom, but at least for THIS team and THIS year, I think he's probably as frustrated as we are.

  • Pete Gillen remarked how many points the Herd has given up due to missed freethrows. Anybody remember how many points he mentioned?

  • Herrion doesn't go then I must react accordingly  I give a good size monthly donation to BG. Football donations will go up its normal 10% annually, basketball will go down 50% since we have a half ass program.

I dont see any other way to send my concerns.

Have you written Mike?  I would offer that I don't think any of us has any right to bitch on here, reduce or contributions or stop going to games UNLESS we've informed the power-that-be of our concerns.  Its like bitching about the neighbor's dog pooping in your yard - unless you TELL the neighbor, how are you sure he knows?

How would you even do it?

And as marshallmark mentioned, the best way to handle it would be to contact Mr. Hamrick, with your donations for this year, let him know why you were giving, why you weren't, etc.

I plan to write a letter to Hamrick with the bank draft document. you can always add more later  one has to assume he has his ear to this site.

You know what you say about assuming anything.

My question is how can you give 50% more to FB and 10% less to BB? Giving to the Big Green goes to ALL sports.

EDIT: Never mind my question. I know there was a plan close to being implemented at one point that would've done away with the Tip-Off Club, QB Club, Dugout Club, etc.

  • I doubt Hamrick will make any comments at this time. However, when the season is over he has to publically guve Herrion a thumbs up or down for next year.
