  • Nice that DJ is going back to his original position, it is curious though that AJ is moving from corner..... Thoughts?

  • Where did you hear this?

Are you sure they didn't mean A.J. Scott?

I'm quite shocked after what I saw out of Leggett early in practice last year and what I heard about him over the summer.

You don't move a potential lock-down corner to safety.

Was thinking the same thing. We haven't had a corner like Leggett in a long time. Was looking forward to watching him #t corner.

  • Let me clarify more by not really surprised. I was baffled after last year moving safeties to LBers and size mismatches, but staff has shown they will do this before, So not much can surprise me with what the staff does. Now on to Leggitt.

We have Baxter, Lovett, Thomas and Roberts. Who knows maybe the FSU flip will get some corner time or we run a 4-2-5 type D that gets a lot of secondary on field at times. Now Maybe just maybe Leggitt over the top is a benefit. While I like the idea of pressing we couldn't do that much either last year. This year if Leggit is playing safety we can because I THINK he can pick the guy up and go if our corner gets beat on it. I also think his skills could lead to some huge plays. There's also the void in the safety spot that gives him immediate first team reps one would think. Lots can be done before fall if it doesn't work.

Yes I like the idea of Leggitt at corne, but I'm really intrigued at how big of a play maker he can be at safety.

  • Maybe they moved him because he is so good. He can make more of an impact from safety, being in the middle of the field will give him the opportunity to be in on every play. Who knows, he might not work out in spring and they move him back?

Its definitely good to have this problem.

  • I like the idea of Dj Hunter punishing whoever comes across the middle to make a catch.

  • The move to safety would be great. We could really use Leggets speed to cover ground.

  • Think about some of the best defenses we had. They all had really good or great safties.

    1997 - 1999: Rogers Beckett

2004 - 2005: Chris Royal (maybe the most underrated Herd player of my generation. I'm 25.)

    2009: Ashton Hall

And don't forget Chris Crocker. He was part of some good secondaries on defenses that struggled to stop the run with the front 7.

Hopefully, Hunter and Leggett will play at a high level.
    Go Marshall Herd!!!

  • I've been on record as saying Hunter would be anOLB again.......other than Thompson who isnt eligible for spring FB I dont see that we are deep at this pos. Maybe one of the 2013 JUCO signees also or even McElvey or Waiters. But Hunter was the only returning outside guy with some exp and tackles. Turene is a big dude but maybe he has the wheels...dont know.

  • LBs: Turene, Mitchell, Benjiman, Hewitt, Houston, Plantt(?), Holmes, Carter, Meadows, Thompson (perhaps) etc., etc. We have depth at LB that is GOOD.

  • maybe....but like I said Hunter the only guy that stood out any last yr other than Arrington......most of those dont have any exp or have not been starters. In the middle I like Holmes and Mitchell is a whopper but on the outside we are def short of exp. This board has been very critical of the LBs each of the last two seasons. Dont want to have to read that #hit another yr. Hoping for the best.

  • Maybe we are so strong at corner that we can afford this extra atleticism at safety?  Or maybe the kid grew 2 inches and 25 pounds?  He is young.   This is very encouraging to me.

  • Curtis Keyes?

The best ever to wear the green and white on defense.  Hardest hitter ever and a game changer.  #25 was the man.  JMO though.

  • Curtis was great...could have wrapped up a little better. He was always in seek of the big hit, but he did bring a lot of excitement to the game.

  • I thought with his size and range, Baxter would have been an ideal candidate to move to safety.
