HUNTINGTON – In less than three weeks, Marshall Football will take to Edwards Stadium to begin 15 spring practices spread over 33 days.

It’s the “unofficial start” to Coach Doc Holliday’s fourth season as the Thundering Herd coach, and despite a virtual revolving door on his staff offices with going and comings this season, Holliday said the players will be able to tell the coaches without a scorecard.

“We’ve had a lot of change, but one positive is we’ve had the ability … with our skill development and our mat drills and in everything we’ve done this winter, our coaches have had the opportunity to get around these guys,” Holliday said in his office at the Shewey Building. “That’s fortunate for us and for these players. It’s good, so there should be a lot of carryover going into spring ball.

  • Brown has to sit out 2 full semesters, so he can't join the team until the Spring semester is over.

  • Hunter moving back to Strong Safety...sweet. Wonder who will take his LB spot?

First time in years that I can't wait for spring ball to start.

  • Who determines who participates in the pro day?  Glad to see Martin get a look.

  • So AJ Legget is an amazing cornerback and we move him to safety where he has never played? Sounds... just... wow.

  • Again...did he get bigger?  Or, did he lose a step with the injury?  Or, is he not as good as the FsU kid?  Lots of good reasons.

They moved DJ to LB where he never played, Arrington to safety where he never played, Daniel to DE where he never played, Korn to safety  ;D where he never played.

tell me how we know AJ Legget is an amazing corner, from his play on the field?  I dont know if he is or isnt, but from his body of work at Marshall, I find it hard for anyone to make this statement. I hope he does play well, but   Sounds just like the statements that were made about the moving Van before he even played a snap!

  • I'll take the word of the players who, to a man, stated AJ Leggett was a shut-down corner.  Nobody wanted to face him in drills.  And one of the wr's who was saying this is a potential high-round NFL wideout and another is participating in NFL Pro Day.

Well, we must be hiring good people, because other people keep hiring them,” said Holliday, who has endured more than 15 staff changes since his hiring in December 2009. “I teased somebody the other day that the unemployment people ought to start sending people through my office, because then everyone would have a job.

“Walk in that door and walk out the other one and get a really good job. It’s amazing. I don’t know of any program in America that’s had this.”

    That's a pretty good line.

IIRC they said they same thing about Van.  I see what he does on the field before saying he is so amazing.  I do hope he is a good player, and can help our D.  Let's face it, in this day and age, when you are facing 4 & 5 wide rec sets on a regular basis, you need 4 c's on the field.  Maybe they feel they can play more of their D without subbing so much.  We'll see.

  • A lot of people look at things from a player perspective.

For instance, maybe Legget is much better at corner than safety.  Does that mean he should play corner?  Nope, not if playing safety gets more talent on the field, which will help us win more games.
