  • So.....as long as buildings and fields are being constructed, mediocrity on the field is justified?

I'd rather have winning seasons and mediocre buildings.

  • He has made upgrades in both major sports facilities. He is building a new state of the art soccer stadium that will help not only MU but the tri-state area. We are breaking ground next month on a much needed IPF. I too believe he has done a great job here.

Interesting.  When I read the materials for the Vision Campaign, it said that Kopp was spearheading these efforts.

Maybe Hamrick would be better suited for working for the Big Green.

When was the Joan built?  When was our greatest football era?

When was the Cam built?  When was our greatest basketball era?

I understand what you are saying, but the 2 things are not separate.

I guess then we can assume that the winning seasons those buildings brought only last a while and then we have to build newer buildings to have winning seasons again.

    Actually pretty accurate.

Remember all those stories about how Pruett quit because the admin were not serious about investing in the program.  They took the money for the IPF etc.

We haven't built anything in way too long.  In the Mac we had the best facilities.  Now we have some of the worst.

First off, I agree with your main point about the need for facilities.  It is more than ridiculous that we are now behind several of the MAC schools (e.g. Central Michigan's IPF and Akron) in terms of facilities when we were so far ahead of them.

However, I don't think "our greatest basketball era" was the 1980s.  While those were exciting times going to Asheville, it only amounted to three first round losses in the NCAA Tournament:  '84 loss to Villanova, 85 loss to VCU, andthe 87 loss to TCU.

I think a better era was the Elliss Johnson and Carl Tacy teams of the late 60s and early 70s, and those games were played at the field house.  Johnsonlead us to the final four of the NIT, when the NIT was the main tournament.  Tacy lead us to a a No. 12 ranking.  With that being said, I haven't even dug back into the Cam Henderson era stats.

Having also lived through the 60s-80s I can understand your view.

However I'm not willing, and probably not able, to endure another 30 year drought.

  • I dont get why we always put ourselves in these positions by extending contracts when coaches haven't done anything. Makes no sense. Then we get stuck with these guys longer than we should which only hurts us in the long run. What these magazines dont realize is that you arent talking about a program that uses common sense.

We were pretty dismal when I first started attending games in 77 also. Didn't like it then, don't like it now. There's no excuse for the last 8 years. None.

At the end of the 2008 season I stated I wouldn't attend another Herd football game until the administration proved they were serious about winning. 28-34 since then if memory serves.
