  • "Hot seat" (haught' seet) noun, meaning a place where a coach sits and receives automatic contract rollovers for 5-7 underachieving seasons.

  • I don't think he is on a Hot Seat.  With the contract extension, he has three years left on his contract.  If anyone is on the Hot Seat in 2013, I would think it is Hamrick.  Doc will be here in 2014 no matter what.

  • What the nation considers a 'hot seat' and Marshall consider a 'hot seat' are not always the same thing.

  • Not on the hot seat.  Would take a non bowl season to even consider making a move.

  • If we don't go to a bowl with this schedule, he should be fired. Good gravy.

  • As things stand now I don't see Doc being on the hot seat.  Marshall can't afford to get rid of him.  Money doesn't grow on trees at Marshall like it does some other places.  I think a bowl and contract extension is more likely.

  • What a great gig the coaches have. Losing seasons and you get contract extensions. If only the corporate world would adopt this strategy then contributions would pour in.

  • Neither Hamrick or Doc are on a hot seat.  Lord how quick we forget our recent history with coach, and long term history with AD  he is doing a great job there.

Thanks for the clarification. I did not know of the extensions until finding out this year on here. Based on the underperforming year in both sports, this has been unsettling.

For CEOs, COOs & CFOs, the corporate world DOES operate similarly. And if they get canned their GP's are 10 to 100 times more lucrative than HC's.

Guess I don't view coaches in the category of CEOs.  More like Field Manager's failing 3 out of 4 years.

Is Hamrick on a guaranteed contract similar to the coaches?

I don't have that answer. I would assume so, but just an assumption.

Just curious:  what has Hamrick done a "great job" with?

Neither football nor basketball had a winning season.  He hired both coaches.

Are you referring to Women's softball or golf?

He has made upgrades in both major sports facilities. He is building a new state of the art soccer stadium that will help not only MU but the tri-state area. We are breaking ground next month on a much needed IPF. I too believe he has done a great job here.

  • Other than the extensions not being announced when they were granted I think Hamrick has gone a pretty damn good job.  Some of our fans have unrealistic expectations and if they want to continue to want those type of things then maybe they should start donating more money and stop spending so much time whining and complaining on a message board...
