You need to take the emotion out of the arguement and separate the business from the feelings..............

It seems like it's your feelings that have got hurt Dan, not mine.  Like you said; it's just business.  I'm looking at it from a consumer standpoint.  This consumer wants to see CUSA action.  If ESPN and it's affiliates can give it to me, great.  If not, I'll take my business elsewhere.

am beginning to find it interesting and curious the number of "posters" who all of the sudden are beginning to see ESPN as the enemy? how much of MU's reputation has been built on ESPN's networks? I guess memories are short and loyalties are transient

Just a few years ago, Marshall got much more exposure on Saturdays that it does now.  Seems like short memories and transient loyalties are a two way street.  Just business though.  Colin Cowherd made a statement on his show one day that I liked.  The basic gist of it is teams (and large corporations) like to challenge people's loyalty basically to keep them watching a sub-par product.  A good example is the Bengals for years use to challenge the City of Cincinnati's loyalty to it's team.  I can be a fan and root for a team all I want.  But when it comes to being a consumer, I'm going to use my dollars in a matter that best meets my needs.  If a company is no longer meeting my needs, I'll go find one that will.

  • I agree with what you are saying bgt, yes, if a person or company that you get services from is not giving you what exactly you want and how you want, then you go somewhere else to satisfy your desired services.

But, in this case, you are getting rid of, or cutting back services from a guaranteed venue, a well known business that, like it or not, is a sure thing. And you are replacing all of, or some of it, with a service that is totally brand new with somewhat of a plan in place based on alot of "guesstimations" and maybe even "promises".  jmo

I think CUSA knows what they are doing in how they know they still have ESPN in the same prime time weeknight spots, and take a gamble on a new tv network.
If the CSTV fails after 5 years, CUSA will have had big money earned and had time to make itself desirable to ESPN again.
In other words, it gives CUSA time to give ESPN a more description of where this conference is in football and more importantly, basketball.
In 5 years, should CUSA routinely field 3 to 4 NCAA tourney teams and had a few top 10 finishes in football or even a bcs bid, then I am sure that ESPN and CUSA will hook up again.

Now if CSTV takes off and becomes a major player, and most importantly, the #1 competitor to ESPN, then CUSA gets the best of both worlds and everybody is happy because the money keeps rolling in along with the national exposure.

Once again, alot is riding on how this league will perform in basketball. Here's to hoping that Memphis goes to the final four next year.
I think the football side is more known but the basketball is ????????
    IT'S TAILGATING SEASON!
