  • Saw that Doc said "that guy that hit the field goal missed one at VT that cost us the game".  Seriously?

I was in the stadium at VT.  Rain was coming down incredibly hard in OT and the wind really picked up.  Only a complete idiot Coach would make a statement that the field goal cost us that game.  How about the horrible offensive game plan for the second half?  Coaching cost us the VT game.

    Dumb comment.
I don't like to lose, and that isn't so much because it is just a football game, but because defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don't want a football player who doesn't take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought, 'Oh, well, there's another Saturday.' The trouble in American life today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.- Knute Rockne

  • Docs post game comments.  Bunch of folks heard it as I noticed another post below this one referencing it as well as other comments also popping up on other message boards.

Loser coaches make those types of comments.

  • Players who played for Pruett often said they would tear down a brick wall for him.  Making these types of comments, I wonder if many of the players would tear through a wet sack for Doc...

I saw that ...he was talking fast and didn't have a chance to explain details of that...its more complicated than that and doc knows it....im not holding that against him....now if he had said that with deeper reflection like in a post game press conference..where yiu have more time to mean what you say and say what you mean...then id hild him accountable

  • Doc said it straight up...you need to watch his expression and how he wss talking fast and excitrd to get unto the locker room with the guys...

He definitley put his foot in his mouth....but if people are going to crucify him for majing mistakes in how he says things on the field after the game one time....then he ishould just jog into the locker room and not talk....

I know enough to know that docs a team guy....teams win or lose not players....

Im sure haige felt like he lost the game for us at vt...and tdoc had all the confidencein the world in him tinight and gave him a chance to get his cinfidence back.

  • You all are unbelievable; he was giving Haig a compliment and saying that he had confidence in him to go win this game.  He did miss one that cost us the game; everyone knows it.  Doc was making a comparison about how magnificent it was for him to get a different outcome.  Wow, just wow.  Can you ever get off Doc's back?

He did not miss one that "cost us the game" unless you are giving a pass to all the other drives that failed to get points or missed blocks that gave away position that led to points. After that missed kick, we got the ball back and failed to score. Why wasn't that the thing that "cost us the game". Our blockers let the VT rushers in to block a kick that they picked up and took in for a TD. Were they the ones that "cost us the game".

Saying the kicker has had some trouble and this was his redemption is one thing. Specifically saying that the kicker missed a kick against VT that "cost us the game" (Doc's words) is nonsense given all the other plays that also failed and also cost us points that would have won it.

  • I recorded the game and just went back and watched it. He said "Well you know what, I give my kids a lot of credit. They kept fighting and you know what that kicker just kicked that one through and you know what he missed the one down at Va Tech that cost us a game there down there. But so proud of him the way he's fought adversity and came back. Bottom line is we came on the road and won a conference game. Give FAU a lot of credit. They fought their tales off, it was a hard fought game, (inaudible)

He may not have phrased it the best way but I think he was actually paying Haig a compliment. He was very excited and talking very fast to the point I couldn't under stand a sentence he said and I replayed it a dozen times. Also, I have never seen him so happy after a win. If you recorded the game go back and watch his expressions just after Haig nails the field goal. Very genuinely happy and excited, hugging coaches and players.

  • Wow...you guys are really crazy.  Doc didn't phrase it the right way but I guarantee you he don't mean that Haig cost us the game. Had that been the you can be the would have found a different kicker.   See what happened to Butler after his screw up.

    Good lord.

That's exactly what he was saying. He was complimenting Haig for hanging in there and making that pressure kick.

  • Funny, Coach O'Brien was rather eloquent after his team beat Michigan in four overtimes. If Doc were like 9-1 over the last ten games and said that nobody would mind. This is just bumbling to add to the bumbling.

  • Haig did miss a kick that a scholarship player should make.  I'm not sure what Doc said that is so awful.  I'm not his biggest fan, but give me a break.

Haig didn't miss the one in OT vs Va Tech, our line forgot to block and looked like Swiss cheese.

  • It was a compliment to Haig!

In order to compliment Haig, Doc didn't and shouldn't have referenced the Virginia Tech game.  You're talking about trying a field goal in a downpour versus one in perfect conditions.  I understand what he was trying to say, but he did it in the most awkward manner possible.

You guys find the craziest crap to complain about.

not only that, but I think he also meant that statement to remind everybody else that doesn't pay us much attn that VT (who's now #24, & will certainly rise tomorrow) just barely beat us.  if he just left it at "he missed a FG at VT" w/o saying something to the effect of the game was on the line at the time, then the casual viewer would probably just assume he missed a confidence-shattering chip-shot FG in an expected 20-some point loss.  it was a statement both crediting Haig w/bouncing back & to remind viewers that we almost knocked off VT.
