  • That's the attendance from 11/26/11...granted, there's more at stake this time, but we'll be coming out of a stretch of less-than-ideal weather, too...will we beat that number???...

  • I like BMoore's optimism...but I'm thinking <20k.

    Reasons:
ECU wont bring as many as usual (weather)
    Shoppers
    Schools Out
Haven't been winning for long enough to get the fans back
    Shitty weather
    on tv
    Attendance low all season

  • I'll hope for 23,500

Don't recall the level of effort with reasonable --- even cheap tickets.

This would be a huge win for the team.

I just hope they don't come out too amped up. They said FIU was high amp due to family and friends and seeing local players on other side.

    Big game, big opportunity.

All of this was true in 2011.  We eclipse this number easily.  28,000

  • At 32k-35k, I think we have a chance to exceed the attendance up North on Saturday.  We have a LOT going against us though.  Noon game, Black Friday, etc.  It's probably not realistic.

Although its a shame and I love your optimism, but there is no way we break 30k for this game.

  • If the game was on saturday, 30k is reasonable and attainable. Friday at noon, 25k would be a blessing, 20k is much more likely. I'll say 23k just from effort and promotions etc. Let's get the win and pack the championship game next week (go Tulane)

This. When my boss said that if we worked Christmas Eve we would get a floating day off, my hand literally shot up like I was back in elementary school. Ill make up the noise for 3 people if I have to and can't talk Saturday.

  • I'm afraid that only about 22,000 will show up. With the students being gone and being the biggest shopping day of the year, I just can't see it being much more than that. I hope that I am wrong, I really do.

  • Deer season.
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

  • Bad weather?

    46 and 6 mph wind?

Get you some hot chocolate,  some bourbon, mix, be happy.

    Shop after the game online.

Only idiots go to stores on Black Friday anyway.

  • I will be there with five others.  I will never say their is no reason to not go to this game if you are a Herd fan because should we host the CUSA championship game I will have to miss it to coach my son's basketball team in their first game.  His sports are more important than Herd sports.  However shopping or hunting won't ever be a reason/excuse I would use to not go.

  • Amazes me that people would even attempt to use shopping as an excuse to skip the game. Blows my mind.

Good grief.  The reasons that many are citing for justifying low attendance numbers are to me, unbelievable.  Granted I don't live in West Virginia, but using shopping as an excuse is weak, particularly if you truly like college football.  First you can get equally good deals online and from better stores than you have in most areas of West Virginia.  Now they also have "Brown Thursday" sales today so go a day early.  Noon start?  Actually with the forecast for a sunny day, the temperatures will be near or at its warmest which will make it great football weather.  You can also shop an hour or two before the game and certainly after.  Deer Season?  I won't comment except to say, if you'd rather go shoot an animal than cheer on the Herd, that says it all.

I know there's not that much going on in Central and Southern West Virginia that trumps attending a Championship game featuring Marshall and East Carolina.  Excuses are unacceptable.  And even the students from towns like the one I grew up in can bring their behinds back and do their part as well.

You answered your own sense of unbelief. "If"....that is the operative word "IF" one was more a fan of college football fan than a fan of Christmas shopping, or some other activity, then yes they would at the game. It isn't unbelievable if you realize that many are not college football fans first.

  • I would usually agree shopping and hunting etc are not an excuse. However, during this day and week it is.

The only reason I won't be hunting with family this year, as is the tradition, is I don't have my license and everything ready as I was expecting to be working but got out of my notice early. It is the biggest shopping day of the year and people love to shop. This is too a tradition among many women in families, just as hunting is in men.

These are valid reasons to miss a badly scheduled football game. Friday at 7pm, much better. I am binging all I can but I will not forsake anyone for spending time with their families partaking in family traditions. One thing I have learned over the past year moving away for work jut seeing dollar signs, is that family comes first. Its the only thing that matters at the end of this life for us. Those are he only people going to be standing by your bed holding your hand as you pass away, not Marshall, not Bob pruett or the team. So yes, family during this week, is a valid excuse.
