HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - You didn't have to know how long it's been since Marshall has been a football contender.

    You could see it.

The flags in the Joan C. Edwards Stadium concourse honor Carl Lee, Mike Bartrum and Mike Barber. There was the fan on Friday wearing the old No. 10 Chad Pennington jersey.

Maybe soon, maybe now, after Marshall's 59-28 rout of East Carolina to clinch the Conference USA East division, those flags and jerseys will be updated. Maybe now the Thundering Herd fans will feel like defensive end Gary Thompson did Friday evening.

  • "The crowd was only an announced 25,117, but there was reason for excitement...."

You can always count on Mitch Vingle throwing in a back-handed compliment whenever he writes a story about Marshall.
It's sad that he can't write a simple piece about Marshall winning the east division championship without insinuating, in one way or another, that WVU is superior. Geesh.... ::)

"It was validation for all the effort they've put forth," Heater said. "You could see after all the frustration they've felt to get over the top. The offense has been tremendous. We just had to get a defense that was good enough to win.

"Doc did that with recruiting. He got the offense squared away two years ago with recruiting. He got the defense squared away this year with recruiting."

    Heater smiled.

"That's why I came here. I knew Doc would have players. I know him. I trusted him. Sure enough, there are guys here that can play."

Doc can hire some good assistants too.  ;)

The guy hates the Herd. I'm loving it, Vingy has to write about Marshall winning over a very good team and clinching a division title.

Yeah, nobody on THIS forum would ever make a comment about attendance. ;D
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

  • I will. There were a hell of a lot more there than 25K.

I thought so too, but no matter.  We were LOUD!!! Loved the excitement. During one of the We Are... chants during a timeout, Myers was on the field pointing to each side as we were yelling. One of my best days at The Joan in a while.

  • The attendance slam was irksome. Given the circumstances, I thought we had a great turnout. The crowd was loud and into the game the whole time. IMO, this is why the state of WV can't ever get ahead. We cut off our nose to spite our face. I've always felt Marshall would have a much broader fan base if the media (Gazette, etc.), politicians and would quit slamming Marshall whenever the opportunity arises. Ironic that a state that tries to sell itself on "unity" doesn't practice what it preaches....

  • I think we can get at least 30k if we get the title game.  Lets see what the who gets today. Probably more than we did.

I've always been surprised that no one ever comments on the Marshall articles on the facebook comments option.  If there is a complaint that you want someone to hear outside kelly green nation why not say something there?

Personally, I think the "only" comment was not necessary, but after hearing all the b!tching on here about attendance all season there is little room to all that bent out of shape.

  • I read that article and found no bias in it. Here's the funny part, I never see the writers WIN/LOSS picks in the WV Gazette, but as I was in town I had a chance to see which writers picked Marshall to win and which scribes picked to Marshall to lose.

You Mitchy Mitch Mitch haters should know even your beloved Doug Smock picked Marshall to LOSE!!!! In fact the ONLY WV Gazette scribe to pick Marshall to win was.....Son of a Mitch Vingle!!!aka weenie dingle journalistic porn star!!!

So give the man some props, he and he alone, out of I think 7 scribes picked us to win.

Sure he's a EER through and through but as I attended the game all I could think was, wow biggest home game in a decade as we only pull 25K. I found it sad, even though those attending did their best to make it feel like a sell out.
