Topic: We jumped Rice in the Massey Ratings!!!

Last week we were #75 and Rice was #64.

This week, we are #60 and Rice is #67.

Massey was our lowest computer ranking last week, so it could be a sign of good things to come!!!

Since that poll isn't used in bcs rankings it doesn't matter where we are

We ended up behind Rice 56-58 in Sagrins. Ahead in overall but the column they use we are behind.

In any computer model including margin of victory, Marshall would be ahead of Rice; however, the six individual ratings used in the BCS ratings system have to exclude margin of victory, and because Rice has played a slightly better schedule (and thus a better SOS rating), they may be ahead in certain ratings (like Sagarin).  So, MU has a better overall rating in Sagarin, but the BCS rating (excluding MOV) has MU slightly behind.

I've said since last week, if the right scenarios play out by both teams, we blow out ECU, Tumane plays rice very close, that we would end up separated b 3 positions or less, 2 or even back to back would not surprise me, but I think we will be ahead.  I think just like in he first poll displayed above, Rice will drop a spot or 3, and we will rise minimum 7 or 8.  I think we get it.  Let's hope!!

Regarding Sagarin, no -- last week, Rice was 58 and Marshall was 59; both jumped up this week, but Rice jumped to 56 and Marshall jumped to 58, so we lost ground in Sagarin.

So we really don't know anything at this point

Yes - throw out the high and low and average the four remaining ratings.

Not to pick too much of a nit - but the computer models are ratings rather than polls -- polls imply voting.  :)

I would think it helped.  We both beat UAB so probably a wash there either way.  We beat so miss while rice didn't play them

After someone pointed it out, it needs to be noted that Massey's BCS ratings are not out yet -- we jumped up in Massey's standard rating, but the BCS rating is not yet known.   :'(

Yep need that vote. I really hope we get it but I just don't see it happening. SOS plays a huge roll in it. Wish margin of victory would be considered too but I don't think it is...

Surely their is a vote out there somewhere. Would be huge to have the game in Huntington and deserves to be there after the blowout of#31 ECU.

The biggest thing is, they did not play an FCS team. That makes a difference. Also their losses were to a&m, Houston and north texas. Houston and UNT finished 8-4. Ohio won and finished 7-5 but is still our worst loss.

We need to try to not schedule an FCS next year and get as good a ooc foe as we can in Louisville's place. I hate they bailed next year, that would have been our bcs win in what could easily be an undefeated season and some preseason votes coming in when we finish 11-3 and return a lot of talent.

Agree here. 3 MAC schools is enough without getting an FCS. Miami can stand in for the FCS. Must be a name school somewhere that needs a game.
