  • So I'm watching Two and a Half Men...Recent episodes have starred D.B Sweeney as "Larry" the brother of "Gretchen" played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley played Sandy Lengyel, wife of Coach Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) in "We are Marshall" and D.B. Sweeney played Billy McGiff in "Two Tickets to Paradise" (originally titled "Dirt Nap") in which Marshall beats Texas for the BCS National Championship.  It is reported that MU is depicted in that game because Sweeney (D.B., not Gary, if you now who I mean) was/is enamored by the Marshall story.

Does it say something that I caught this, or even that I watch Two and a Half Men?

  • D.B Sweeney tailgated with us and I had a picture of me wwith him. I asked him why he chose Marshall for the movie. He told me that he really liked Marshall in the 90's and that we made him a lot of money betting on the Herd. Was a really cool guy.

  • Don't forget that Kimberly Williams-Paisley is married to Brad Paisley who is from WV. He didn't go to Marshall but he did attend John Marshall High School in Glen Dale, WV.

That should be worth at least half a degree of separation!

  • Also more info on Berta, the housekeeper. She is Conchatta Ferrell from Charleston. Her degree from Marshall is in Social Studies Education.

She is 71 but certainly doesn't look it.

She has a very long career in supporting roles on TV starting in 1974 plus a few movie roles including Network, Mystic Pizza, Edward Scissorhands, and Erin Brockovich.

She was also the star of the Norman Lear sitcom in 1975 Hot L Baltimore which was pretty racy in those days. I remember her from off the "off" campus revue "The Barthenon" which must be been in the late 1960's early 1970's. The revue was showed on the top floor of the old Trailways Bus station.

You're absolutely right about Sheen.  But he essentially plays the same character on Anger Management.

  • Anger Management isn't nearly as well written.  He's the same guy, but delivering crappy material.
