HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's basketball coach Dan D'Antoni announced Calvin "CJ" Burks of Hedgesville, W.Va., as the first signee of the 2014 recruiting class -- and the first in the D'Antoni coaching era with the Thundering Herd.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 20 points per game for Hedgesville High in 2013-14, his senior season. Burks was named to the Class AAA All-State first team, along with making the All-State Tournament Team after Hedgesville was eliminated by Hurricane in a triple-overtime semifinal contest.

In the quarterfinal round of the Class AAA State Tournament, Burks scored a game-high 25 points in a 54-49 victory over Parkersburg South. MaxPreps.com has Burks pegged as the No. 9 recruit in the state of West Virginia.

A Martinsburg, W.Va., native, Burks is slated to play in the annual West Virginia North-South All-Star Game for the North squad on June 20 at South Charleston Community Center. The annual matchup is a showcase consisting of the state's top seniors.

I was thinking that about Chuck. There's a lot talent in the Eastern Panhandle with schools like Martinsburg.

My gut says this is a good pick up.

Sometimes I think I'm in the minority on this subject, but I'm one of those posters who prefers picking up W Va kids. I particularly like the fact we're going into the eastern panhandle. That's Pouty country (UVa & VaTech too). If the kid does well at MU then MU will be getting free local PR for the next four or five years.

#9 in WV??   We can do that for a spot or two but unless finding diamonds in rough recruiting us going to need to be better

Where did #1 thru 8 go? Swat I thought. Get the best kids regardless where from. And yeah a little insight into character is required. JUCOs are cool too if in the mold of Tinnon, Sam Ervin, Epps, Dwayne Lewis etc.

In state kid that can play. I love it. We have a lot of basketball talent in this state. We have a lot of talent that can play the style we are now wanting to play.

My favorite part about his video was him diving on the floor after loose balls. IMO, we will see a lot of that on our team now.

Kid also looks like he's been hitting the weight room. Thats a sign of dedication and want to.

Says the very guy who incites such problems, Many times through back handed insults like the reponse above and the original one. Like the kid who starts a fight then goes and hides behind the teacher trying to look like the innocent one.  I just wish the ignore button worked so you go away.
