  • He is a great, great guy.  Go up and introduce yourself, it is just like talking with your neighbor. He truly is a down to earth guy.  We talked a little about his playing days in the Fieldhouse and some memorable events such as Ellis putting the glasses on the dog and Jim Davidson absolutely flooring Toledo's Willie Babione with a right cross.  Coach is a great guy.  It was a breath of fresh air listening to him talk.  He even said he would not tolerate any kind of rap music with vulgar lyrics in his locker room.  If his daughter can't listen to it then his players will not listen to it.  Over all a very nice outing at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

  • I do not like rap or hip-hop.  That said, he should not limit the scope to rap songs.  I hope the spirit of his statement meant ANY music like that.  There are plenty of rock and country songs that are vulgar as well.  Seems prudent as a representative of Marshall that he not single out or stereotype as a rule of thumb.  Not saying he did, but if that's the first thing that popped into my head it might be for others that would be offended or vocal about it.

I like the discipline.  I like that it starts on day one.  I hope that it is enforced and adhered to.  I would love to see someone bitch-slapped back onto the bench for attitude problems.  I would really love that it never had to happen because there weren't any attitude problems.

I think he means blaring in the locker room.  I don't think he will care if they are wearing headphones

  • There is a quote in the Chris Duhon article on HerdZone that I really like. It is spot on about what is needed.

“We’ve got to change that culture to where we don’t have to worry about the culture. Then, we can worry about the game of basketball.”

  • That's what I mean.  A blanket policy that encumbers all of that.  Just don't single out a specific music type that is favored by a specific group of people.   ;)

  • Yea I don't think he meant they could not listen to whatever they want on personal headphones.  He just didn't want to here a bunch of MF's blaring in the locker room.  Which I applaud him on.  I guess I am getting old but, I just don't like to here that stuff out in public.

  • When Legursky started in place of Pouncey in the SB, Tomlin stated that DL would succeed because "the standard is the standard"...I think that concept applies here...

  • He told a group in Charleston it was any type of music with the 'N-word', the 'F-word', or the 'B-word'.

No!  I'm trying to say he should avoid wording that someone could misconstrue as racism.  He's better off saying no vulgar music in locker rooms than no rap music in locker rooms.  That is all.

When I read TRS's post I pictured someone making an issue out of that.  I'm not making an issue out of it.  I was just looking a few moves ahead and where that could lead is all.

No idea what you mean.  Nothing in there says arrogance.  My intention in that post was I'm glad discipline is being instilled and followed through with and that Coach should be careful how he phrases things.  That's all.

  • I don't think this guy knows what being arrogant means. It clearly doesn't apply to that post.

  • I just hope he can find some tall, really talented players that agree to "church league" rules, like no cursing....

The culture of most high school athletes is to curse and listen to rap...

I am afraid we are going to end up with a team that resembles Concord or University of Charleston....

pretty sure they're probably not permitted to blare rap music or cuss loudly on a job or in class, no why is a couple hrs a day on the basketball floor/locker room any different?  my goodness, if you can't function for a few hrs w/o needing to cuss yourself or needing to here someone else cuss (music), that person's got some probs!  not to mention where did the 'cussing' point come from, anyway?  i read 'profanity-laced' music, not run 15 laps for cussing.  & as someone mentioned, i have a feeling that does NOT apply to what they listen to on headphones.

  • All these guys say they want to be professionals. Well I'm sure DD is treating them the same way the NBA guys are treated. Once again, I'm sure they can listen to whatever they want to on their head phones. Blaring inappropriate music for all to hear should not be tolerated.

  • My son bought some of those inappropriate CDs. When he left home there were years of them broken by the tree by his bedroom window. I got pretty good at smashing them on one throw.
