  • Just wondering...for me, watching is just a sleep inducing as golf when it comes to my Saturday/Sunday naps...too many non-competitive cars and too much Hendrick Motorsports...looking at the stands at LOTS of venues, it appears that I'm not the only one who feels that way...

  • Like it but the newer cars aren't as fun to watch.

  • We used to have big crowds in my bar to watch the races.  We used to plan events and have race related games.  Now we're lucky (or unlucky as the case may be) to have anyone there even ask to have the race put on the TVs.

I've never been a fan of racing, but I always put on a smile and pretended to be interested when NASCAR was discussed.  It just isn't that popular anymore.

  • It is dying off in a big way, however there are still 100k people in the seats on sundays. Its just funny because when I was a kid, nascar was not a sport snd not considered mainstream at all.

Then just maybe 8 years ago it became a phenomenon, espn lived and breathed it and commercials with nascar drvers everywhere. Now, its back to relative obscurity. They built those huge sets of bleachers and seating when I was exploding. Now half of them are tarped or covered in sponsers advertisements now.

  • Nope. It's not a sport in my opinion. Sorta like Horse racing. Could care less.

  • They've priced themselves out of their market, some of the cheap seat are now close to $100 each. I know you might be able to find some cheaper other places, but the tickets are really high.

I have been to several races and will go to more, but the draw is just not there anymore. To watch on TV and to see it in person are two totally different experiences. But I am afraid with too many "cookie-cutter tracks," and cars don't resemble anything you see on the street that people have become disinterested.

  • You can find tix for anywhere from 50 and up. We went to charlotte a couple weeks ago and paid 65 for tix at the finish line about 50 rows up or so I think. There are stoll a lot of people there, even though it looks sparse on tv.

The experience at the track is way dofferent than tv. Listening to the scanner and radio convos and feeling you chest vibrate from the power o those cars is awesome. On top of that you have basically a whole weekend of tail gating and hanging out with friends. Getting a lot of free stuff before the race from vendors and the beautiful women are also a plus.

And not calling it a sport, because you are disinterested in it, is silly. Its a sport, the same as any other that people buy tickets to see competition.

  • It is a sport. Drivers are very skilled and it takes a team to be successful. Drivers now days are in great shape.

They did get too big for their britches and kind of like safety in the UFC it has made it less risky and therefore not as rewarding to watch.

However Junior did win today :).

  • It's always a good day of racing when Jr. Wins.  I have thought he has became a little more consistent each of the past few years and has just been right there on the edge of major success, and he really seems to be putting a good year together this year.  It is amazing how these drivers talk about how much their personal lives and daily habits and emotions away from the track so heavily influence their race weekend success or failure!

  • There is a kid from Parkersburg - Cale Conley - that has driven a few Nationwide events this year.  I watched him in his first race at Bristol.  Only racing I have watched in years.

  • Stock car racing was fun "back in the day" when you would see a certain model win on Sunday and Monday go out and buy one just like it.

Yes, I like to watch it. I would much rather go to a race than watch it on tv. I also like the nationwide series more than the sprint cup. To each their own. I didn't care for nascar until I actually went to a race. It also helps me pass the spring and summer waiting on Herd FB.

  • Best thing about NASCAR is being in the infield and watching all the drunk Girls Gone Wild chicks.  I HATED NASCAR until my parents talked me into partying at their motohome @ Taladega.  Felt like Fat Tuesday on Bourbon St.

  • This season has had some of the best racing I've seen since the late 90s/early 2000's. You guys are missing out on some great action.

  • I think it's been terrible racing this year. New rules allowing more downforce has taken more driver out of it. I've lost interest completely.

  • I always wonder if they get tired of turning left. It just seems so redundant and boring.

  • Anyone that has been to a race and think they are boring should go to the night race at Bristol. Or for that matter any race at any track. Its easy to be critical or negative towards something you don't understand.
