  • Just curious...since I'm over here isolated in Buckeye Country and a number of you have co-workers, friends, relatives, and the like who root for the "dark side" I'm just wondering what their point of view is on the upcoming football season...realistic???...delusional???...optimistic???...pessimistic???...disillusioned???...also, I'd be interested in hearing what those folks are saying about Holgs, Hugs, and Luck at this point...and, for those who say that this makes no difference since we're not scheduled, I beg to differ...if Mountaineer football is "down", the we have an excellent opportunity to make some inroads in terms of attendance, recruiting, and media coverage...

  • The delusional ones (50% of their fans) believe Holgerson will get it turned around.

The semi-delusional ones (45%) think Holgerson will get fired, and they can compete in the big 12 if they had a better coach.

The ones that actually managed to eke out some semblance of an education from that drunken bum of a town (5%) realize their whole program is @#%!# by being in the big 12.

Also, judging by what people wear, and bumper stickers, etc. their fanbase has been cut by what I would guess to be 25%.
    Note: I'm not Eric Pinkerton.

  • Why are our fans obsessed with whatever wvu does?  If you're curious go to their boards and ask.

like it or not, this is true.  if you don't think there are proud WVians who either didn't go to college or didn't go to either school who would pay us a whole heckuva lot more attention if we're running out a top 25 program while wvu's stuck in a rut of going 4-8, 5-7 for an extended period of time, you're very sadly mistaken.  if you need proof, this area is the perfect example.  i didn't grow up here, but when i moved here several yrs ago, you hardly saw any wvu stuff around town.  now, it's VERY prevalent.  half of morgantown didn't just move here in a blink of an eye & all of a sudden there's all kinds of wvu gear around town.  it's people that don't have a personal tie to either school that like a winner, plain & simple.

  • They burn couches when they lose too. My expectation for Eer Nation is that they will do something to embarrass the state.

  • maybe throw another quarter, garbage can or just come up with a really white trash t-shirt. If all else fails they can prob find a visiting preg f male somewhere. Any state big wig daughters skipping class in grad school? Degree gate two would be cool. Or maybe Huggins or Holgy could ask for one more refreshment at the casino after the management called the cops or one could fall into another black eye? They've got a million of em.

Id say 95% delusional is accurate. We were having a discussion with some non college football fans about the wvu and marshall relationship the other day at work. They asked me why I hate wvu, I said "its not wvu as much as it is the delusional fans. See, Marshall fans know we have a proud history and take pride in where we have been and hope to have a top 25 team every now and then, but we also know we arent alabama and we arent going to win a national title, and we are fine with that. Wvu fans believe they should be in the title hunt every year and competing with Alabama etc. They think because they got some BCS bowls by playing a weak big east schedule they are somehow deserving "

They laughed and I said "you want to test it?" And they said "how?" I told them a guy named john that works with us is an eer fan. Ask him. They said "you going to take down bama?" And he said "absolutely" lol they started laughing and he didnt. Stone cold, and they asked if he was serious and without hesitation "oh yeah, we can compete with alabama. We almost won a national title a few years ago." I couldnt help interject about how pitt beat them and he went on a tangent about pitt being a perennial power and the big east such a tough conference etc. It could NOT have worked out any better.

  • Why would we want to discuss WVU's football team on our main board?

  • I hope they go 5-7 or  6-6 forever...Don't need them looking to us for coaches that could improve their lot, especially in the big 12, and w/ Doc' and Co. doing well here...Wish them mediocrity forever is my hope.  They can stew in their "greatness" of that, but don't need any of them looking south to MU, they've got more money and resources.  Not a fair fight, just like they prefer.  F'em, but just don't wish too much horribleness on them, or it could come back to hurt MU.  As we  all know, Doc' and Legg came from that school up there...    Lot's of cash, and their alma mater would be easy lures for either/or.

  • If you don't believe that WVU's football fortunes don't have a big impact on Marshall's, YOU are DELUSIONAL...in fact, it's WAY MORE than "sorta Herd related"...I originally put this on the main board to stimulate some discussion on the main board during a dead time, which I CLEARLY stated, although I just knew somebody would throw out the "WVU obsession" card...anyhow, some discussion was raised, my questions were answered, so now the thread can die peacefully on the smack board...
