Noone said it was black and white. Some of the same people that complain about our strength of schedule are the same ones complaining about the ticket prices for the big games. I see it at work as well as on message boards, facebook, etc. If you want to bring in higher profile teams you're going to have to be willing to pay more money to see MU play them. I'm not saying you in particular...I'm saying MU "fans" in general. If we don't put @$$es in seats when the big names come to town, guess what...they quit coming to town.
I was very disappointed when the Joan wasn't sold out for this game. Maybe my view is scewed because I literally heard people who claim to be MU fans say they weren't going to pay that price to see them play. People who I know for a fact could afford the tickets. The same people who talk about eating meals at the 50 plus dollar a plate restaurants. That is the EXACT attitude that holds MU back. You just simply can't have it both ways.
I don't know...maybe it's just my soap box. In the grand scheme of things I believe $50 a game is quite the bargain to see my team play a big name opponent.
There are lots of fans that arent "fanatics" the way most of us on here are. Just because you can afford something doesnt make it a good value to you. And as someone stated earlier, our team was very poor at that time and there was very little excitement around the program.
More than a 100% mark-up for almost 1/4 of our stadium, given where our program was at the time, and the fact that we have never sold out a non-WVU game was simply too much.
Just a quick browse of ticket prices right now, I can get endzone tickets in Boise for BYU for $33, and Boise pretty much always sells out a similar sized stadium. Endzone tickets at Florida state for either UVA or BC are $45, and UK v GA in Lexington for $55.
$ 50 for tickets that have a hard time selling at $15-$25 per ticket just doesn't make sense. IF, your objective is a sell out. If your objective is to make as much money as possible, then well maybe Hamrick did it right.
Edit: just in case I wasn't clear, I'm talking strictly about end zone tickets here.
