"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity; they seem more afraid of life than of death"  – James F. Byrnes

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

  • Given the attention the statement is getting, Hamrick is going to look like a clown if it isn't a really big name.

True. Well, "clown" might be a bit strong, but mostly true.

There's been a couple of times he's made these "just wait till you see it" statements that the announcement was somewhat anticlimactic.

Anti-climatic maybe... leaks happen. But that doesn't make him a clown. If by "anti-climatic" you actually meant "somewhat of a let-down"... and that's the context, given the previous sentence... care to name one that was a let-down? Help me out. I don't recall any. But maybe my pro-Hamrick bias just is that thick.

Sturt, I think that barryb regards the NCSU 1 for 1 after that build-up as being very disappointing. I don't agree with him, but I can definitely see his POV. With all the handicaps Marshall has in scheduling OOC home & home's, any such series with a contract 5 school or an upper Group 5 team such as UC's Bearcats, ECU, AFA, Navy, Boise, etc would be great.

  • Thanks, elgin. Assuming you're right, what's different with that was that Hamrick didn't actually say anything that would have led anyone to believe it was something more than NCSU. So, while warry may have been disappointed, there wasn't anything he could point to and say Hamrick gave reason to think something better. In this case, the words of his comment suggests this one is going to exceed a 1/1 with Purdue, and so you almost have to be talking about some upper-crust program.

  • So Hamrick trying to get big schools to come here and Marcum actually canceled 2 HUGE names in college football that were coming here (Miami and Tenn.)   God I still hate that SOB!!!   He will go down in my memory as the worst AD in Marshall history by a freakin mile. He was a POS.

Nah. No way. Someone told me on the Insider board there was a 0.0% chance of that, and I believe him.

I'm speculating but it makes sense.....why would hamrick make a comment like that....it has to be a major program....and I'm thinking the only way a major program, outside of WVU.  ::) would come to  Huntington is if somebody was close to Doc....and who is close to marshall with close ties to Doc.......Urban Meyer and Ohio St.....in addition a guy Who works for me is buddies with Hamrick and he said hamrick made the comment that he is pursuing OSU for a 1-1".........and of course this is all speculation...

  • OSU makes no sense.  They would be better off to donate a couple million to big green and play someone else at home

    You're thinking of TCU.

We had a home and home with them. The first game was nsupposed to be there and they were to come to Huntington the following year. The game in Texas was cancelled due to 9-11. We tried to insist they come to Huntington the following year and we would go there another year. They insisted we had to go to Texas first.

    Neither game was ever played.
