    BOG takes steps for expansion

    http://www.marshallparthenon.com/news/2005/03/10/News/Bog-Takes.Steps.For.Expansion-891263.shtml

The BOG athletic committee presented the design plans for the new 13,000 sq. ft. athletic training facility. The new facility will be available to all athletes. It will be located on Third Ave. the east side of the Shewey Building behind the Joan C. Edwards Field House.

"This is the first step in a multiple step process to get us ready for Conference USA," BOG member John G. Hess, said.

  • So, let me get this straight.

We sacrifice new turf and and indoor practice facility for a parking lot, general training facility and student aerobics studio.  hmmm.

  • So much for the theory that Pruett wasn't getting his IPF!

Is this not the football practice field? Just east of Shewey?
Where is the Joan Edwards Field House?

It seems like the author is mixing up two projects---the expansion of the Shewey facility, and the development of the much-talked-about student health/fitness center to be located where Glaser Furniture and Mycrofts are.

My guess is that the "Joan Edwards Field House" referred to is actually Joan Edwards Field---probably just a lot of screw-ups here by a young journalism student.

Not to mention that the Alpha Chi Omega "soon to be parking lot" is next door to the Joan Edwards Playhouse.
    Confusing to say the least......

  • True Lydia.  No need to put much stock in a Parthenon report.

I believe they are refering to the new facilities building upgrade that was supposed to expand the Shewey Building over to the East stands.  However, they mentioned it will now double as an "all athletes" facility rather than just a football facility.  I would imagine that the football would have to schedule their time now.  I don't know if this was always the plan.

The turf may have been excluded from the article, being more a maintenance item rather than new construction.  Since Joan paid for it, I would hope Joan would get to see it this year.

Nothing on the IPF and I doubt we will see it.

I was told by a friend who works in the BG office that the IPF WILL happen relatively soon (not sure if that meant within one, two, or three years), though it will be a "bubble" facility.

Sorry, I was refering to "this" year.  I would hope it will happen sometime down the road.
