  • And one point they are saying that the P5 teams do not want to play us, then they are complaining because we do not play any P5 teams.

In hindsight, it would have been better to maybe consider a 1 and done at a quality P5 school this year than play Rhode Island at home. With a win over a "respectable" team, this discussion would not be happening.  :-\

The odds of finding a d1 school, let alone a p5 school last minute like that is slim to none. And I'm sure you would be on here complaining about only having 5 home games if he somehow did find a school with an opening.

  • They base their entire argument on the fallacy that any "P5" school is a better win than any G5 team.  It absolutely amazes me that ESPN and Disney have been able to pull this off.  They have completely rebranded college football to fit their narrative, and the entire country has bought into it.  Just goes to show you how powerful propaganda can be.

  • I don't think the issue is really uri replacing louisville. I think even with UL on the schedule, we still wouldn't be looked at favorably. The main issue is willingly scheduling 3 MAC teams in a season.

Maybe its time to get off our high horse and realize we have no leverage in scheduling and start taking some 2-1s again.

I hope not.  HFA means too much.  We should never ever purposefully put ourselves at a disadvantage like that.  I love Hamrick's 1 for 1 rule.  Things didn't work out for this year, but I like our future schedules especially with Louisville and Pitt in 2016.

  • Maybe we should look at it this way..... we needed a lighter schedule for once. It allows us to be on ESPN and be undefeated, ranked, and part of the national conversation. Would you rather have played at OSU and lost a gamr and not ranked and nobody talking about us?

Thats not saying we wouldnt beat OSU this year😧, i believe we would actually. But, its nice to be relevant.

Note the little campaigning they did for ECU, whose conference they have a contract with, and even trying to say a two loss ecu deserves it... bahahaha. Thats ridiculous.

It would be nice if they watched a game for once and saw how good we are and gave us respect but it wont happen. They act like we play in the FCS

  • Certainly odd that in 1999 we were ESPN darlings with highlights each week with a SOS worse that this year's and wound up #10.

We'll never know. We could have lost 45-10 to a P5 school and people would not even be speaking about us at this point, let alone be ranked. It's a damn double edged sword - darned if we do, darned if we don't.

  • I gurss dshoe would say espn is not picking on a non espn school here...or that its totally normal to add a skit to the show like that because its their opinion The wvu grad said that the priblem is that P5s dont want to play us...thats com0letely not true.  Then it blurs the line with access bowl and playoff.  No 8ne thinks marshall will get to top 4 to be in the playoff.

As ecus strength of schedule gets worse I wonder what espn will say?  Unc and vt may lose out the rest of their schedules.

Acc3ss bowl is about money...but we will play a P5 even without an access bowl and shut people up after bowl season is over.

after bowl season we will be ranked ahead of ecu in the ap and coaches polls...we will get a P5 opponent..but ecu and the aac will get the money.

  • Our schedule is never going to "stack up" because we're not a member of the aristocracy.  Doesn't matter who we have in the OOC slate, you'll always hear the "couldn't compete week in and week out" crap.  Might as well get used to it as long as we're relevant.

At least they'r talking about us, do you think we would even be an afterthought on this show the last 10 years?  To borrow and paraphrase an old saying,

"It is better to win all of your games against a $hitty schedule and be thought a scrub, than to lose half of them and remove all doubt."

  • I can't take any "expert" seriously who still refers to bowls as BCS bowls. It's their job to know this stuff and make it look like they have some clue of what they're talking about. Which leads me to wonder how they get a job like this in the first place?

Some SB Nation and Bleacher Report writers have a better knowledge of college football than some of these ESPN talking heads.

What I find hilarious is that the talking heads on these ESPN shows give us down the road so much and talk about ECU like they are world beaters, and yet in their own Power Index, Marshall is 21st and ECU is 46th and not even the top AAC school. Memphis is 36, Houston is 45. Boise is 49. WVU is 29. So according to their own rankings MU is ahead of the next closest G5 school by 15 spots.

  • So, I watched the video.  It wasn't as bad as what I thought.  It was really geared more towards the national championship rather than the access bowl.  They did say repeatedly that we were good.  I would rather be undefeated and having them talk about us instead of having two losses (due to playing 1 for none) and them not talking about us.

Shoe you know I have a lot of respect for you and what you have done for Marshall, but ESPN was way over the line to "DISRESPECT OUR TEAM" and Marshall University the way they did. To say a 2 loss ECU deserves to be ahead of us pisses me off big time! Who was the clown with the Marshall helmet making fun of us? I have never seen ESPN make fun of a team like that, did we piss someone off there? I wish we could play the eerdiots in a bowl game and shut up big mouth Anthony Beckett, he has never liked us and never will.
