  • 1.  Calling the run at the end of the first half to set up the FG.  No one saw that coming.

    2.  Kicking the last FG rather than going for the TD.

    3.  The gutsy pass play to make first down just before the victory formation.

    And one bad one:

Skip Holtz calling for a 51 yd FG in the wind and rain when your kicker had already missed an XP and barely made the FG in the first possession of the game.  He should have pooch punted, at the worst you probably gain 14 yards of field position.
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

  • You know, they didn't punt for beans all day.  Their kicker was not in sync either.  I was wondering if maybe those suspensions didn't really mess up their special teams.

    2. Their kicker had looked shaky, but had an excellent season, the range to do it and the wind behind him. He did not miss by much.

    3. Looked to me like we were a full half-yard short of the sticks on that play, which would have made it 4th down with 31 secs to go. For some reason they never showed the replay. But, as always with ol' p2m, commies under every bed. Didn't think much of that play call.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • The field goal attempt was 49 yds, his long of the year was 51, and the wind was at his back.

#1. I thought it was obvious we were going to run it and thought it was definitely the smartest thing to do at that point.

#2. Why would we not try to kick that? Especially with the wind at our backs? Once again,, thought that was the only choice there.

#3. Yes, that was a good play call, and was gutsy. Glad to see we played to win right there.

Their FG, I agree. I thought they would either punt it or go for it. No idea why they tried that.

Maybe because Marshall did just that earlier in the game on 4th down.

  • Look, I'm thrilled we won and we did have some good calls, but that pass at the end on 3rd down was NOT a smart move.  It was not gutsy.  It was unnecessary.  We snapped the ball with about 50 seconds left on that 3rd down play.  A run there and there would've been about 5 seconds left before we had to snap it on 4th down.  All you have to do is hand off the the running back and have him run around in the backfield for 5 seconds until time expires and then fall down.  Game over.

Instead we risked either an interception or facing a 4th down with 45 seconds left.

I love Doc but that blew my mind, sorry.

But it worked, when you do something crazy and it works it makes you look like a genius.
