HUNTINGTON — For nearly four quarters, it appeared like it was going to be another gloomy Saturday for Marshall University's football team.

That’s when Rakeem Cato cemented his status as an all-time Thundering Herd great at quarterback.

Cato led an 11-play, 68-yard drive, capped by a 6-yard touchdown pass to Deon-Tay McManus with 1:50 left to give the Herd its first lead and a 26-23 win in the Conference USA Championship in front of 23,711 fans at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

It is the Herd’s first C-USA football championship.
