  • I appreciate your pick and without reading your sturt type essay of logic, I can rest easy now. Every time you have picked against the Herd, you've been wrong. Rest easy Herd Fans it in now in the bag. Herd wins. Herd wins. Herd wins. Thanks sturt, er' 24.

Lol please dont compare me to sturt. I don't write an essay on why a poster is wrong or illogical, i explained my position. Most of my posts are a paragraph or less. Plus, this is the first time i have picked against us.

  • I could go on, but surely those statements together say all that need to be said.

Foregone Conclusion and I do agree, however, on this much... some of you have been pretty quick to the conclusion that we're alike. We aren't at all alike. We both disagree with each other, and often passionately. We are both big fans like many of you reading this.

I believe that's where the similarities end. I've elaborated sufficiently as-to where the differences lie, so I feel no compulsion to repeat all of that here.

All I'll say is this... mainly for kjh's benefit since s/he seems new here and might not have heard this straight-up before...

Honestly, I make no apologies for writing essays as to why a given opinion is missing some facts and/or logic.

We come to a discussion board to discuss the issues concerning our school/program/team. We're not going to agree about everything. And that's a good thing... it'd be dang boring and no one would bother.

Nor is everything so shallow that the issues are coherently addressed/adjudicated in a matter of a few sentences... and yes, maybe not even in a matter of a few paragraphs.

(It's not an expectation on any of the other half-dozen boards I frequent, but for some reason, this one... where unfortunately we are connected to a state that is ripe with criticism from outsiders who like to joke that we're all lazy and can't read and inbreed... this one is one where that inexplicably happens.)

And btw, just because some point made is, in my judgment, wrong doesn't necessarily mean that one or both of us can't respect each other as fallible but sincere human beings otherwise.

If you want a Twitter board, go start for yourself a Twitter Herd board where you'll be assured of no imposition by yours truly. I'm here to have real discussion with other reasonable adults who aren't really into all of the sideshow peripheral distractions to talking about substance. I assume that's everyone here until they shine a light on themselves and make statements to the contrary. I hold no condescending thought/attitude toward anyone who decides to avoid reading my posts; only condescension occurs when posters previously engaged in a conversation seem to use word count or word choice as an excuse for deviating from the discussion, or from those who otherwise have nothing substantive to bring, but just interject that or any other shot that they can take without any prompting from me. On that front, I don't apologize... I do what you or I have always told our kids to do... don't take that first swing, but once the other guy punches you, you have every right to defend yourself, so do that.

  • The average score for MU was about 45-17 when we were at our best. Herd is refocused.                                                                               Marshall 45  NIU 17.

  • Looks like no rain and only a slight wind this evening.

I'm gonna revise... feeling like 42-21 now, and 7 of that is a late NIU TD.

  • This is purely a motivational thing.

This is NIUs superbowl, and Marshall's toilet bowl scenario this season. And the players will play like it.

NIU out "efforts" MU and win the game 52-28

First time i have ever picked against the Herd. I hope to hell i am wrong.

    Wow.

Started to go through the list here to see who wins the Nostradamus Trophy.

May I be the first to say I'm genuinely impressed, FC.

Almost got the score exactly right.

  • I did not make a prediction but I must admit I was very concerned we would go down there and lay an egg. It just seemed like a perfect storm with the stuff about Doc, Kopp passing, and the thought we would play deflated and take a decent team lightly. In the end the far superior talent won out and did so fairly easily. I knew there was a reason I could never pick against the Herd.

  • You weren't alone in your concern, of course. I'd guess even among many of us who thought it more likely to be a romp, there was an ominous sense that we might be miscalculating some key element in the assessment... ending up underestimating NIU or overestimating our own.

But in the end, I'm one of those who figure if I'm going to be wrong, I'd rather be "homer-wrong." It's more about believing in our players and our program, less about being right. Not that any given player is anxiously looking on these pages to gauge who believes in them and who doesn't. I'm not saying that. But let's just say I'm glad that as an overall fan base, players can see clearly that it isn't just them against the world... that they're supported, and there's a belief in what they can accomplish... it's just a positive vibe that I believe bodes well for the program in general... maybe affirmed in the point that you say you could never pick against the Herd.
