At my mom's, having to contain my enthusiasm for A&M... she's one of those who thinks you root for whatever team is most local... I think it's a combination of a generational thing and a cultural thing, b/c she talks about all of the years that WVU was disregarded, in the shadow of Penn State and Pitt... remember the old Warner-Lambert Trophy thing for the best Eastern football team back-when? She even feels that Kentucky was disregarded... that schools drawing students from Appalachia have always been so easily dismissed in comparison to other universities around the country.

Illinois isn't a great example obviously but it is usually a different level of athletes.
