  • I am OK with the series I guess... Would have liked to have seen a Cincy or UCF type team but why is it we have to go their first?  Anyone have any thoughts on that?

My thoughts, or rather my fear, is if this is the best Hamrick can do going six years out, what does the future hold for our program?

If he can keep doing home-and-home with 2 ACC schools for every SB or MAC he lines up, it holds great things.

  • Both of svherd's post are spot on. Hamrick himself used the term "big news." This is a crime. I have ponied up, ponied up, and ponied up some more to help this program grow. Playing Appy is not BIG NEWS. I'm getting tired of giving 110% and then getting something like this.

You people that are rationalizing this series as a good one are divorced from reality. I've been telling my breakfast friends in Kettering, Ohio that Marshall was going to announce a home and home series with a "name" university. They'll laugh me out of he resturant when I tell them this.

From this point on, I will give to the Big Green what is required to keep my chairbacks and nothing more. That, my friends is a big change for me.

I'm really tired of all this nonsense. IT IS NOT UPGRADING OUR STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE and that's what needed to be done.

    It's laughable, absolutely laughable.

  • I would rather play them than Miami  lowhio, Kent or FCS but the tweet saying big news was a mistake.

    Exactly.

Actually, not withstanding my belly aching about this announcement, I have no problem playing some games against old Southern Conf rivals that have moved up to our level. Truth is I've advocated it. One or two games against old rivals from both the MAC and Southern Conference teams now at our level makes sense to me. They are good schedule fillers, but they aren't something to brag about or hype.

My problem is the absolute lack of respect, even contempt, for us fans exhibited by Hamrick for the intelligence of us fans. Promise us big news then give us this. Next thing you know he'll complaining about Al Gore trying to claim credit for Hamrick's invention.

  • It'd be funny if Appy State is in the top 25 when we play them.

  • @HerdFansINFO tweeted that "huge news" was coming.

Not sure if that Twitter handle belongs to a big wig on this site or not.

Either there is bigger news on the horizon or this series was seriously overhyped.

I think that was tweeted in reference to Hamrick announcing on twitter that a big announcement coming.

  • Does nothing to enhance the quality of our schedule. Spin it all you want but that's a fact. No pundit is gonna say - " Oh Marshall is playing Appy; that should push their cred up a bit."

Apparently they don't feel that way about Purdue, either.  Doesn't matter who we schedule.  If it's not one of about 10 teams that they gush over 24/7 then it doesn't help our perception.  And if it is one of the godly teams, it only helps if we beat them at their stadium and that lasts about a year.  Then we find ourselves in the "what have you done for me lately" zone.

  • I agree the schedule was overhyped, but a schedule of Appy, Navy, and ECU is not bad when looked at as a whole.

I think what I tweeted was "Big news coming for Marshall University"  the same day Hamrick said big news regarding a scheduled series announcement. Slight difference in the two but I must admit I was and still am disappointed.

  • I like it. Let's not forget these guys beat Michigan. In 5+ years these guys could be in a better conference and be perceived as a better team than they are now. Boone is a trip I've always wanted to make as well.

  • I love it, and wish we would schedule more games with them. Heck, I wish they were in our conference instead of friggin Charlotte.

This is a football school, we have history with them, and I think they will bring a decent crowd when they come.

We need to ditch this CUSA basketball league and get ourselves aligned in a new conference with schools that are serious about football. Like App St and Ga Southern.

Kiddin me with some of you guys complaining about playing an actual football program that has better name recognition in football than anyone else in our division (besides us.)

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

Once again, they have better name recognition in football than any other school in our division besides us.

They will bring a better crowd than anyone in our division or the MAC.

It is in the south, specifically NC where we have a lot of alumni who can make the trip.

Not true. Last time they were here and we spanked them, they were lucky to have brought 5-700 fans. I remember sitting in my seats looking over in disbelief of how poor their following was. People can spin this any way they want but the truth is its a big letdown for most of the herd faithful. Nobody cares about Appy State anymore. Maybe in the old 1-AA years it meant something but not anymore. Huge letdown IMO. The way this thing was being talked up I thought we were looking to announce something with an SEC, ACC or Big Ten school.
