  • Chez, it's our offense line that's the problem. Keep in mind our O-Line dominated teams last year. You can say what you want even if Cato was playing now, he would struggle because of our line. BTW, Legg's offense for the last two years has been ranked in the top 5 each year.
Nice post E-Man. After about 50 years of playing the game, coaching the game and covering the game I find it refreshing to have a solid post like you and not that numb nuts crap I read on here all the time.
By the way Chez I have been involved in more football games in my life in one form or another not just as a "fan" than you ever will be.

  • Let's just see how things play out in next few weeks.  Hopefully, Devon Johnson and Clint Van Horn aren't going to miss very many more games, if any.  Apparently some of our other injured are day to day or week to week, because I don't know if the athletic department has ruled anyone out for the rest of the season.

As for today's game, let's hope Kent turns out to be better than the MAC East bottom feeder.  Its pretty clear that our Purdue win is no great feat.  They lost AT HOME to BG today, have only 1 win, over a FCS team, and may not win another game.  Ohio U. may be better than most thought, losing by 3 at Minn.  Also, MTSU lost at Illinois barely missing a field goal at the end.  Same Illinois that slaughtered Kent.  At present, unless we improve significantly, and Legg goes deeper into his Poca middle school playbook, don't see how we can win any of the remaining 4 road (conference) games!  Oh yeah, don't believe the ODU game next will tell us much:  they got killed at home today by Appalachian State!!

  • Litton is the QB for the next 4 years. He has shown more poise in his first two games of any QB I have seen.Once our receivers can get open we will start to see great numbers. The offencive line wil start playing better as most of our future opposition will be much weaker on defense.

  • Did anybody mention that the right side of the line (Van Horn and Devers) was out today? That helped No. 51 pressure Litton the whole game.

  • We should win every game, because We Are Marshall.!

Shame on you Doc Overholt Holiday, Shame on you Bob Pruett. Shame on you Stan Parrish, George Chaump, not to even to mention Cam Henderson.

We are 3-1 and playing a very improved competition from years gone by. Let's Play tOsu 10 times each year and we fellow Presdents feel certain we are playing the best. After a good classy drink along with the best cigar we can shake hands on our (bleep) agreement. Let us enjoy our fake admiration one for another since the 1920's.. And drink to a crock of b/s.

Let's realize we are a rebuilding program. Let's realize we are not tOSU. Let's remember... We are Marshall...and that's pretty damn good....

Fwiw, no one reading or lurking can ever become a son of Marshall. The greatest thing that ever happened in my life. An opportunity that is open to all. The high, the low, the rich nor poor. Female or male, you can become a Son of Marshall.

  • Remember that Leftwich started out 2-4, including a 42-0 shellacking...that turned pretty well, didn't it???...you just don't easily replace Rakeem Cato...or any of the other seniors who provided the leadership...

  • Legg: A terrible play-caller, always has been, no imagination.
O-Line: Killing us. No protection for QB.
WR: Can't get open. We miss Shuler tremendously. No one like him.  Also can't catch a cold.

Players:  I am very very impressed with their interviews. They seem to have a great positive mind-set. Doc gets credit for that. And, yes, maybe it was right to run off some cancerous players (though I miss their playing ability).

Doc:  With 20 seconds to go, why can't we try a Hail Mary. Most any coach would have given us a shot to win in regulation. He is WAY too conservative for me. But, he deserves credit for what he has accomplished.

I am very happy to be 3-1. Still thinking NOT trying another QB at Ohio cost us a chance to be undefeated at this point.   We have stupid head-in-the-sand coaches at times.    I want to see some flexibility. Other teams/coaches have it; we DO NOT...

Go Herd. I am proud of you. Thanks for the win today.
    Go HERD!!!

Exactly. I remember Chad having six interceptions. I remember Leftwich looking not so good. I even asked my Brother, Class of 70' if Byron would make it. He said," He will be ok." You know what, he was. So will Chase.

  • The offense is bad right now, but this is one of the worst threads I've ever seen on Herdfans.  Amazing stupidity in this thread.

CUSA didn't hand Doc the championship.  Bowl committees didn't hand him 3 bowl wins.  He has 3 P5 wins.  The AP and coaches didn't just rank us for the %^&* of it all.

Just horrible.  I'm actually embarrassed for some of you.  Frankly, I think some of you just won't let yourselves like Doc. And some of you don't understand football at all.

  • Big Ol Hillbilly is correct on the recruiting front. We're getting hosed by schools like Miami (Oh), WMU, Tol, and many other mid majors. I belong to several recruiting services and we're ranked below MANY mid major programs. Lots of our commits (2016) have very little offers of note and some no offers at all. All of them can't be flying under the radar. 2 to 3 years back, Doc and staff were on top of their game. Not any more IMO.

As far as firing Doc,Legg etc. Get over it. Ain't gonna happen.

  • You guys want Doc fired after a win?  OOO K.

    .

I don't want him fired at all. That being said, the schedule is a joke and we will never know how good we are and it is starting to cause problems IMO.

It all depends on what you want from the problem. Racking up wins against patsies.  We do lose to Ohio more than not.

The problem is we play bad teams and we will say oh wait we won 9 or 10 games but the program will not elevate doing that. Look who we have coming up ODU(sucks), USM(sucks still), Charlotte(shouldn't even be playing IA football). WKU and MTSU are good teams or at least decent. Other than that we don't play anybody.

Why is recruiting hurting? Not because Doc can't recruit. But, you can only recruit so long and to a certain level in a bad conference.

I agree we all have been lead to believe our recruits are the best available.  Last year proved they were good. Still some future work to do for sure. Development is the key.

  • Docs a mediocre coach that benefits from playing a schedule of bad teams

He almost did not go for 2 to put us up 22-19.

I think someone must have told him it might be smart.

I think losing JaJaun Seider hurt our recruiting more than what everyone wanted to believe. After he left it seems like our recruiting has went downhill a little bit. I know you can't get caught up in the "stars" system but we was able to sign quite a few 3 star kids a few years back and now we can't. However, as long as we can take props we will still be able to land a few studs and that should be enough to keep us competitive.

  • this team has a long long way to go

The single biggest challenge is to FIX the offensive line. It's not as deep as we thought and without Clint against a very well coached defense, way too many sacks allowed, no holes opened for runs up the middle (why those kept getting called is another issue)

Pittman played well enough if the seams or holes had been available. But when defense stunts and changes the way Kent did, Litton had no chance with the pressure and Pitman had no chance.

There's a real serious problem that needs fixed before anything else. Mirabal knows it and so does any opponent who sees game film. We need Van Horn back ASAP and the rest of the line more cohesive. Too many missed assignments.

All that left the defense on the field for WAY too long....

If Mirabal can't find the answer, will be very long season despite the soft schedule. It's not soft against Middle Tenn or Western KY.
