  • Per Twitter, he's no longer allowed at practice...resulting from his speculation on Johnson.

  • I'm not a Landon fan and I was very quick to point out how wrong he was on the fractured vertebrae but what if he's correct and DJ does have a serious back injury that hobbles him for the rest of the year. Marshall will look very petty and Chuck will be vindicated. Can you imagine the I told you so articles.

So what?  DJ very well may have a serious injury.

That doesn't give a columnist license to accuse the staff of forcing an injured player to play.  The article crossed a line.

My un-nameable "source" says the back injury is true.  :(

I find that hard to believe considering Doc basically called Landon a liar and said he is just day to day.

You can still have a back injury and be day to day. And he didn't call Landon a liar he said there's no such thing as a fractured disk and he never said what DJs injury was

Actually it does, assuming he follows accepted journalistic protocol, that is he needs at least two well informed sources that have over time or by virtue of their access proven to be reliable and independently verify his assertion.  Where he needs to be careful, in my opinion, is reporting a story as opposed to writing an opinion in his column.  He if free to express his opinion as long as he makes it clear that it is just that, an opinion.  Once he levels charge and reports it as fact, his publisher and/or supervisor needs to be sure that he has the verifiable sources to back it up.

Let's be clear, State University athletic programs are supported by student fees and tax dollars, therefore it is (in this country) the responsibility of the media to make sure those programs are run in an appropriate manner, that said, it is the reporter's duty to be responsible in his reporting.

Let's not confuse personal issues and fan support with the responsibility of the media.  They are not a PR firm, they exist to inform and therefore protect the average citizen and taxpayer.

My issue with the media though is that too often today (they also - and far too often) want to set the agenda for what they think we should, as a public, believe to be in our best interest........you see this most often in politics, where the media loves to tell you what is important, when in fact it may not be at all important to you or to the many.  I digress, but local media can be guilty too.

I've heard the same thing Tattoo. It's all semantics at this point, true DJ does not have a "fractured" disc he has a herniated disc. And if he's given the green light to play with a blown disc in his back, someone is looking at short term for the football program and not long term for Devon Johnson's health.

Apparently, the MU FB program has had a past problem with Mr Landon's reporting not based on rose( or green ) colored glasses. To be less than transparent and bar him from practices begs for inaccurate info.

This is what I responded to you a week or two ago....Chuck wants it both ways.  IMO Chuck needs to figure out whether he wants to be a tabloid writer or a writer people take seriously because his backs up his opinions/statements with things other than pure conjecture.  No writer can have so many unreliable sources so consistently as Landon does and maintain peoples respect.  He might as well call himself Baghdad Bob or change his column to Tin Foil Hat Tuesday.  IMO his longing for self importance/righteousness has really pushed him over the edge. Maybe the HD needs to put him on the HS beat

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

I dont know what to think? Why is the coaching staff being so "closed lipped" about all of the moves that have taken place this summer? Why havent we heard anything from Marshall about why both AJL's were dismissed? We all know what happened to Stu because they couldnt sit on that one. Im just saying he gives you something to think about.

What good does it do anyone to say why they are gone?  So we can talk about it on a message board?

So we can have an informed discussion and not just speculate as to why they were dismissed. We talk about it every day already. SMH??? duh

  • Landon doesn't check much in regards to fact vs. opinion vs. hyperbole vs. etc.

After realignment, I'd posted an outlined of what I expected MU to get from all the buyouts of those who moved on to the Big East/AAC.  Something like $6M IIRC.  Anyway, I sent this info in an email to Chucky saying it might make for some interesting investigative reporting and he pretty much printed it verbatum without any checking.  Turns out it was wrong - egg on both our faces.

  • Has anyone considered the privacy of the students/players and Marshall's duty to protect their private information?  If a news reporter is actively trying to obtain private information about players through his media pass given by the university and connections within the university or increased access to the players, then the university has a right to ban the reporter or take any other action necessary to protect the privacy of the students/players.  If the athletic department or university know about the reporters attempts to use university granted access to obtain private information about students and take no action to protect the private information what disciplinary action(s) does that leave the AD employees open to and what liability does the university have if information is made public due to their failure to act?  The circumstances would be different if the player granted the university the right to disclose private information to the public and the university chose to do so.  Even if the player has granted the university the right to disclose certain private information that doesn't mean the university will do so.

  • Pretty sure the medical staff has Devon's best interest at heart. To think otherwise is freakin' stupid. They are not going to sign off on allowing a college student to play if he's seriously injured. Why don't we let the experts, be the experts?

Exactly! I know Dr. Giangarra personally and he's an exceptional intelligent doctor. Dr. Giangarra has worked for professional  sport teams and holds a certificate of added qualification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in Sports Medicine. We have one of the best sports team doctors, period! I have to believe Doc when he say's, he's trusting the doctors concerning Devon.

  • If these "sources" are giving out information and it is from reliable, close to the situation sources, would they not be guilty of violation of HIPAA laws?  Otherwise, it must be purely speculation. I know that the HIPAA laws don't even allow us in management in business to discuss anything about health issues of fellow employees to other employees. They are very strict.

Not that your remarks don't have merit, but if we are going to visit hipaa, let's not address violations before visiting Wal-mart...Wal-greens...etc...etc...etc...Sweet Jesus, I observe Hipaa laws being violated everyday in nearly everway.........
