This will be interesting. Is Marshall in a funk after failing to repeat as Conference USA champions? After the 49-28 season-ending loss to Western Kentucky? The answer is probably not. This makes the third straight season with a bowl for the program and the fourth in six years. While 9-3 probably isn’t the record coach Doc Holliday wanted, the team did so with a freshman quarterback _ one that will be playing at home. UConn, meanwhile, must be thrilled. Coach Bob Diaco guided the Huskies to a big win over undefeated Houston in Week 11 and his program ends a four-year bowl drought.

  • Pretty good analysis, but if their D line and O line have the advantage I don't understand how he could not project them with the overall advantage; and the win.

  • Legg and Heater are gonna have to show them something they haven't seen. Our offense is pretty basic and seems easy to prep for. With an edge in the trenches for UConn, this one will be a tight fit. Jmo.

  • Scoring offense

    Herd 43

    U Conn 118

How good can their OL really be?

Our offense not exactly all that and 75 spots better than theirs

  • I think some people are confusing big with good.  Their offensive line is big, but it is not good.  They only average 3.37 yards per carry, that's horrible.  Our line had a rough year and we averaged 4.45.  They gave up 35 sacks on 325 pass attempts, a sack on every 9.5 attempts. Marshall gave up 20 sacks on 435 attempts, a sack every 22 attempts. We gave up 63 TFL, they gave up 91 and we ran a lot more plays than they did.

On defense, we generated 28 sacks.  They had 20.  We had 82 TFL, they had 66.  They gave up 4.46 ypc, we gave up 4.00 ypc.

How anyone can look at the numbers and say they have a decided advantage in the trenches seems a little odd unless you just look at size.  They are not an athletic team.

That's what I am saying. They are big and will try to body us and wear is down. We'll see what happens.
