  • Seems price for one and done arrangements keep going up and up.  Unless of course if its Mu playing at WVU...then it goes down....probably now in the 50k range

  • As bad as the Illini have been for years now, I would think that even Mike "I love those cheap to get home games against pathetic MEAC FCS teams" Hamrick would have to think pretty long and hard before turning down a one and done payday like $1.5 Mil for a game against the like of Illinois.

  • Illinois would not make such an offer to us.  They want to schedule someone they can beat.  Think they would be interested in paying over a mill for non p5 team to come and kick their ass?

  • Your probably right, Thor.  Just saying if we got such a $$$ offer from such a non-powerful "power", would Hamrick give it serious consideration.  Its not like Ohio State or the like was offering a big pay day for a sure A@#Whuppin!!

  • If Central Michigan 2015 played at Illinois 2015 I believe that it would be a competitive game...but in 2022 who knows???...

  • Marshall's problem is that they are not Central Mich. (thank the Lord).  Illinois is
going to be offering the Big $$ to play a team they think (know) that
they can beat.  And that's not Marshall.  Having a G5 school come into
their stadium, whipping their tail, and having to pay them $1.5 Mill. to
boot?  A pill a little too big & bitter to swallow.
Retired 10 years early to follow Herd sports.
Those 10 years have been marvelous.

Except these games are scheduled so far into the future who knows what a team will look like.  Any team (Central Michigan included) will likely be very different than they are today.

  • as much as it pisses me off, there's a MAC team that has almost owned us recently.  any given year the top of the MAC is as good as the top of CUSA.  i'd take that payday thats in driving distance from the core of the fan base.  hope they sneak out with a win to top that cake

  • You would also have no trouble getting seats at their stadium.

To CMU's credit, over last 4 years, they have won at Iowa and Purdue and they have also hosted Michigan State and Oklahoma State (I think both were at least 1 for 2 arrangements). With Big1G new mandates about not playing FCS schools, playing at least 1 OOC game vs P5, etc...the non-power schools in that league from middle down will have to get creative in scheduling to become bowl eligible. Heck both Minn and Nebraska got lucky not enough teams qualified for bowls.

  • Yeah, chris88, but CMU still manages to get these "power" games, with million plus pay outs.  Just doesn't make sense.  I mean if they beat power teams, why do other power teams want to keep scheduling them?  That's the same argument others use as to why schools like Illinois won't schedule the Herd!!  Something inconsistent about that argument.  They'll schedule CMU, and risk a loss, but won't schedule MU for the same reason?

  • Yeah we have had a couple of down years since 1990, but overall pretty consistent in being better than average.  While CMU may have a competitive team some years, seems to be a safer bet they wouldn't be as strong as Marshall 7 years from now.  The AD guys at Illinois had to consider CMU to be low hanging fruit when they approached them for the game.

what's funny is illinois agreed to this deal with an interim athletic director and an interim chancellor.

Probably not.  Take a look at the pattern of our schedules. Not going to over do it.

Fairly large school in a state teams probably recruit in. Gets exposure for the team in Michigan. Gets on tv sets.
