  • Can anyone remember a box score of a player having over a 20 pt and 20 rebound game?   I can't.

  • I've read a lot about Charlie Slack in the fifties. i'm sure he has accomplished that a time or two.  Whiteside maybe? i don't think of any others. Crazy good night for him.

  • Announcer said he tied Uchebo for most double doubles at 12 this season.  That's pretty amazing too.  I still can't figure out why the U sat that guy.  If he wasn't top 5-6 on the team then they should be National champs, instead of suck in the ACC.

  • I doubt he can be replaced but a couple of 15 pt and 12 rebound s per game players in the future and we can be as good as we were in the late sixties and early seventies.

  • One of the guys said Jack B researched and said the last time was in Jan/Feb 1973 when Randy Noll had 21 points? and 23 rebounds vs EKU. I'm pretty sure Noll had 33 points and 21 rebounds when the Herd downed top ten ranked St. Johns and Mel Davis in the 1971 MMI.

Kelly doesn't fit Jim Larranaga's system as well as he does DD's.  Larranaga has a very deliberate offense and (tries) to run a stingy defense.  Not unusual for Larranaga teams to score in the 60s and hold the opposition in the 50s.

FWIW, Miami is at the top of the ACC (ranked #9) and take on #5 UNC Saturday on CBS.

  • Tyler Wilkerson in 2009 was the last Marshall player to score 20 points and record 20 rebounds.. Kelly's 23 boards were the most since Bob Allen in 68

Kelly might get Larranaga fired this season if he wins CUSA player of the year.

Anyone think Kelly gets drafted if he continues this level of play, we have a good tourney show, and at least an NIT bid?

  • I, personally, suspect that Dantoni is a  large part of Kelly's success. He has "brought out" the abilities of this young man. As he has for other very good players on this Herd team.  He has them believing in themselves.

i'd love to say yes, but the nba is weird. he's only 6'7" (at most), he'll be 23 before next season, they'll ask why he didn't play like this against better competition at miami, etc. he'll get some workouts, play in the summer league, etc, but the nba draft is so much about what they envision you becoming, instead of what you are...

  •  “He’s just a monster. As a player, he’s a matchup nightmare. He obviously had a monster game tonight and we had no answer for him.” – Mark Price on Marshall’s James Kelly.

We won't get to NIT unless we get the auto bid from being regular season champs. Too many losses to be an at large. CIT, CBI or the new tournament in Las Vegas if we don't win the CUSA tournament

they finished 6 out of 15 ACC teams last year and are currently #2 in the ACC.  A week or so ago, speculation was for them to be a #2 seed.

to your point, not sure why he didn't play more.  looks like he played in all but 6 games and was in top 8 in minutes averaging about 18 minutes a game.  not totally riding pine but you would think he would get more minutes.  not sure if it was his defense down there or just crossways with staff, or maybe he had trouble adjusting in his first year out of juco.  when you adjust his averages per 40 minutes played he becomes their 3rd leading scorer and had good 3 pt % and FG %.
