  • DD was a still to be decided issue at seasons start but anyone knew that sight unseen Kelly, Elmore and Browning would be an infusion of talent. We had very little talent last yr and won eleven so 15 wins wasn't going out on the limb very far. But still the coaching and how it all came together was unpredictable and IS wonderful. Burks a very nice surprise(his film was impressive however). Its great when we can all be on board at the same time.

As I've said before, TRS and I saw these guys playing together back in April. There was no doubt in my mind that adding Elmore, James and Stevie was going to make a HUGE difference. Burks was not allowed to play with them until school ended last spring.
Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth..

  • What's truly amazing to see, is the players buying into his system are a very discipline group. Remember how a simple free throw couldn't be made from previous Herd teams... now it's like automatic!

Nice to see shooting skills for a change.  A little work in that area goes along way.

  • I don't care if I get bashed for this but I believe this is the best "coached" hoops team I've seen at MU.

This my friends, is a program on the rise.  And I think Danny has a keen eye for the type of kid that will buy in.

Time will tell but it sure seems like a vast improvement over previous situations.  Coach D seems to exude integrity above everything else.  I hope it stays that way.

  • Except for the start of the first half, this was one of the best-coached and well-played games I've seen. To score 80-plus points on this team is really an accomplishment.

Also, I think you saw on display two players in contention for POTY.

  • very good win for the herd.  I think we wore down freeman a little as the game went on.  I thought Burke did a good job on defense for us in the last 10 minutes.  HIs importance shouldn't be overlooked.

  • Not only the integrity part but the man is nothing but optimistic.  I mean when it seemed like the sky was falling he kept telling us at the call in show and practice that things were going to get better.  As I said once before he makes Dale Carnegie look like a pessimist.   I loved listening to his post game show last night. Man the guy kills me. He should be on Saturday Night Live. 8)

  • We do not defend the paint well at all. We hussle on the outside, but leave wide open lanes, or let the ball get passed inside with little to no effort to defend inside the circle.

But when we play a team that is big, and plays inside, we don't have the defense for that.

Just need to defend the paint better. Too many easy, easy baskets.

charlotte has one of the best big men in the league, averaging a double-double, went for 16 and 12 this year against syracuse, went for 24 and 21 against us the first time, we held him to 4 and 9 on thursday.

danny has addressed it, even if they get it in the post, they're going to have to make every single one. odu went 13-19 on layups, charlotte went 16-31. so they shot 68% and 52% on layups for the game (and honestly, prior to us going up 20 in the last 10:38 of the game against charlotte, they were only 8-20 on layups). like he said, they're not going to make all of them, they're going to miss, they're going to turn it over sometimes, and we're going to come down and hit a 3.

with the game still in question, odu and charlotte combined to only go 54% on layups, that's not too terrible.

  • I agree it's not that bad. Just pointing out the one thing that seems to be easy to beat against our D. They hussle and play well on the perimeter. And it seems effortless.

He just doesn't take things too serious it seems.  Maybe partially due to his age and he is not out there trying to get the next job at a higher level school.  I know I started enjoying watching his teams last season as they got better as the year went along.  We may not had the wins but the guys were playing and having fun.  This year the fun is a whole new level.  They guys seem loose and just enjoy playing basketball.  Now there are some bonehead things they do that frustrates me however...that is just me and I get past it.  No matter what kind of team/style you have there are always going to be bonehead things that frustrates fans.  The best part is the overall play of the team.  They are having so much fun and seem to generally have great relationships with each other.  They are easy to get behind and cheer for.  I wish I lived in Huntington so I could go to all the games.
