We do not defend the paint well at all. We hussle on the outside, but leave wide open lanes, or let the ball get passed inside with little to no effort to defend inside the circle.
But when we play a team that is big, and plays inside, we don't have the defense for that.
Just need to defend the paint better. Too many easy, easy baskets.
charlotte has one of the best big men in the league, averaging a double-double, went for 16 and 12 this year against syracuse, went for 24 and 21 against us the first time, we held him to 4 and 9 on thursday.
danny has addressed it, even if they get it in the post, they're going to have to make every single one. odu went 13-19 on layups, charlotte went 16-31. so they shot 68% and 52% on layups for the game (and honestly, prior to us going up 20 in the last 10:38 of the game against charlotte, they were only 8-20 on layups). like he said, they're not going to make all of them, they're going to miss, they're going to turn it over sometimes, and we're going to come down and hit a 3.
with the game still in question, odu and charlotte combined to only go 54% on layups, that's not too terrible.
