CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The W.Va. Senate has voted to override Governor Tomblin's veto on the conceal carry bill.

In a 23-11 vote Saturday morning, the Senate voted to override the veto.

This comes just a day after the house voted to override the bill.

The bill now becomes law in 90 days.

The bill will do away with the state’s current permit and training program to carry a concealed weapon in West Virginia for anyone ages 21 and older. Permits will be required for those between 18-21.

  • Ironically, they pass this after I just spent hundreds of dollars in January for my wife and myself to take the CCW course and paying the fees to get the permit.

  • This session has been pretty much worthless. They passed bills that don't do anything to address the economic condition of the state. No pro business bills , nothing to help fix PEIA. Its been a boondoggle.

This gun bill worries me. I am pro gun and know quite a few HPD. They are concerned that Ole Bubba will not like the way Billy Bob looks at him down at the 14th St Bar and just pull out the ole 38 and shoot him dead. We'll see.

Keep your permit, BOH.  Your money wasn't wasted.  If you plan to travel and carry your firearm other states will still recognize the WV permit but you must have it.  They way I understand this law is it applies to WV residents within the state of WV.

svherd - that has been brought up but there is no evidence to support that rhetoric.  You can carry open in WV right now and most people that really want to carry concealed are already doing so.  People have been carrying guns in WV since we became WV.  What is a fact and what is proven is criminals are cowards.  They prey on the weak.  Carrying concealed sometimes gives the criminals a big surprise.  What has been missed in all of the hysteria brought on by those that don't know what they are talking about is this bill actually provides for stiffer penalties for gun violations.

This is good news and a demonstration of the rights of free people.
