KENOVA - It has been a year of more passengers, more revenue and infrastructural improvements for the Huntington Tri-State Airport.

Located less than 10 miles west of downtown Huntington, major renovations have been done in order to advance the terminal and the runway.

Airport Director Jerry Brienza said 2015 was a pretty productive year.

Several projects listed in the airport's five-year capital improvement plan, submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration, have either been completed or are in the works.

Part of the reason the airport is able to pursue so many of its capital improvement projects is because of the increase in revenue.

For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015, revenue was $238,000 over expenses.

  • The parking situation sucked the last time I flew out of H'ton.  We had to park in some overflow area up on the hill.  The guy that was supposed to run the shuttle was also the guy handling the bags so they said it would be an hour or so before the shuttle went up the hill.  I'd love to see them offer jet service instead of the turbo prop on the Charlotte runs as well.  I live here and would love to see a vibrant airport but they've got a long way to go.  I couldn't believe the $238,000 profit figure.  I don't know how they survive on that.  That isn't a lot of wiggle room that is for sure.  I guess it explains why the baggage handler is also the shuttle driver.

  • Hell, if American would switch to a small RJ, they'd pick up tons of business. Most people I know won't fly in the Dash 8's.

I wish Delta would come back and just add a 7am flight to ATL and an 7pm flight back to HTS - once daily, that's all.

I fly mostly out of CRW. Those 6:20am flights to ATL make for a killer long day.

  • If Charleston wasn't so arrogant, we could have a very nice regional airport by now.  We may have a chance now that Yeager is falling off the mountain.

  • I was just thinking that while reading this thread. Man half of that runway will be gone by next year. Southern WV would greatly benefit by putting a regional airport in Putnam County and doing away with CRW and HTS.

  • I saw a recent report that said the slip devalued Yeager Airport by 18.2 million!

  • I fly out of HTS 20 or so times a year and have for the past 25 years. I would love having a CRJ, but the Dash 8 really isn't that bad, just a bit noisy.  I don't give CRW any business unless I just can't avoid it, screw them!!
