  • It sounds like he is really looking forward to the opportunity.  I hope everything works out well for the young man and the Herd.  I still think we could have used a 6-8 swing man if any of those types still exist. Right now J P Kambola looks like Kareem Abdul Jabar to me. Go Herd!

  • TRS, looking from afar it is really encouraging that players are considering playing for DD.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

  • Gotcha elgin.  BTW are you going to pull the plug after this year?  Come on up to Huntington and we can solve all the world problems and coach all the Herd teams to perfect seasons. ;D

  • Guess Dociz wants more playing time.  He started out as the 6th man and ended up not playing much, if at all, because of the development of Thompson.  Hate to see him go; there are others whose decision to leave would make more sense to me.

  • Getting Watson in is good for MU. He's a WV kid, and he did get a scolly to WF so there is talent there. By the time Watson is eligible MU will not be so overloaded at the G position. Possibly another James Kelly situation where the player transfers and finds success at MU.

  • I'm thinking we have three scholarships for the class of '17, now two with Watson sitting out. There are still three offers out for Jarrod West, Luke Frampton and Chase Johnson. I think Luke is a lock for one of the schollies, unless something happens. So that leaves one open spot for either West or Johnson. But, now Chase looks doubtful with a WVU offer. I also can't rule out St. Joe standout Keith Clemons being in the picture.

Lots of moving parts with upcoming talent coming to the Herd should make for an interesting recruiting cycle.

    Stayed tuned.

  • There has been a name floating around for about a year of a big that might come to Huntington.

After the great success James Kelly had transferring to Marshall and playing in DDs system, I would think surely there is another big somewhere thinking he could also transfer here and get more PT and success on the court.

  • This is interesting.  This is the first time I have heard about this young man.  We would definitely have a connection.  Are there any highlight videos out there that one might watch.  Thanks for the info Herdfan2005.

This young man is 7-1 250. Would be worth trying to beat out the other schools for him. I would fit him into the system.

“I’m excited. I can’t wait to be there,” said Watson, who will have to sit out a year because of NCAA transfer rules. “With me and Jon Elmore in the backcourt, we will be tough to defend.”

  • Yep.  Watson couldn't get minutes as a sophomore on a BAD Wake Forest team.  I'd be shocked if he isn't a backup.

Even at that. He has the talent to play in the ACC. I think he could fit well into the MU guard rotation with Elmore & Burks.

He might.  Wake isn't a typical ACC team (at least lately) and he really didn't play much.  BUT, my point is more to give credit to the returning guards rather than downplay him.

Yep....that's what I got from your post. Elmore & Burks look to be the guards by then. Watson should get PT, but will need to be a heck of a player to start.

  • Actually I see Burks playing a small-ish forward position, taking his man of the dripple for 20 points a game by then.  Or another way to look at it is that we'll probably be playing a 3 guard system by then.
