  • I'm not mad, I'm curious as to why do something half ass? Why didn't they try selling beer in the end zone or east stands? Half of the chair back seats are empty after halftime anyway. Most make an exit to get beer in the stadium parking lot and never return to the  game. I should know, I have chair back season ticket passes.
Half the east side is half empty many games what's the point?  Maybe they are trying to address chair backs after half time?  Maybe. They want to give chair backs more perks?  Maybe it's the first step in whole stadium getting beer.

This is true, I wish they would have explained why only a certain area will have beer.

  • Obviously Hamrick was not too subtle in describing the ClusterFu@k also known as the South End Zone expansion which was done in, sadly, some slipshod, haphazard manor with no real serious planning or engineering that has often characterized some MU projects in the past (see Henderson Center with its "incorporation" into Gullicksson Hall, for example).  Believe under ordinary circumstances and better economic times in West Virginia, if Mike Hamrick had his druthers, upgrading of the Joan would be at the top of his wish list, along with a baseball facility.  Further, if he could, MH would just as soon see the whole damn end zone seating dynamited to the ground, ruble removed, and redone smartly, with inclusion of premium suites, a fan friendly plaza with amenities, concessions, rest rooms, wide concourse area, etc., etc., replacing the erector set bleachers there now!

Nothing would make me more happy.

Put in a legit end zone facility with a party deck and some luxury suites.

Then add a legit upper deck to the East side so we can gain back the seating. This would make our stadium look so much more big time. Even if it did hold around the same amount of people.

  • Who cares about the rest of the stadium.   The chairbacks and pressbox are all that matter.

    From the original statement.....

“Before moving forward with additional selling points, we felt this trial run, of sorts, was necessary,” said Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. “This is a growing trend in college athletics and this approach has been used recently at other schools, including Ohio State, Penn State and Pittsburgh.”

  • So what does this say to the rest of the fans out there?

You are only allowed to drink if you have enough money to sit in the chairbacks. So Marshall is basically saying that the average family person who can't afford chairbacks can't have beer. If you are a peasant and get caught with beer then they will escort you out. If you have the money for chair backs then you can walk around your section just flaunting it. Think about the people who sit right next to the chair backs but the next section over.

Talk about a slap in the face to 90% of the fan base who doesn't sit in the chair backs.

    We are.....Peasants.

Hahaha. I am one of those people. Tix are right next to the chair backs.  Don't drink but if i did, I'd walk into the  big green room. But i laughed at your post. #PeasantLivesMatter

    LOL

I'm sure the toast would be done with a simple raise of the arm, because based upon what I've seen, there is evidently no standing allowed in the chairback section.  ;)

Lol.  Maybe we'll take some video of the east side a few games this year, or endzone, not as impressive as you or others seem to think.

I had no idea so many herd fans could be intimidated into sitting when time to stand.  Then again perpetuating the urban legend can save some $$ on donations and tickets

  • I'm assuming this is being done to try to increase chair back sales this year. It's the only thing that makes sense and cents. You pull in new faces to chair backs and get them hooked on the experience there and then hope to keep them and then open up beer sales to the rest the following season. Makes sense to me. I was pissed when I first heard this but I get what they are doing. Hamrick doesn't allude to this but it's the only thing that makes sense. A trial run doesn't make sense for us. We aren't WVU or other big programs that have more fans. We don't have wild crowds so it's not going to change things to make the atmosphere out of control. He mentions all other places did this trial run and they were successful so the research is done at higher levels and it worked so why wouldn't it work here? That's why I don't buy the trial run bit.

Also, all other places that sell alcohol don't allow pass outs. End this run of pass outs for Marshall. Sure it will piss some off but it will go away and the next generation that comes up will realize it as the norm. It will take 1 season to get over it.
