  • I will always be a Marshall fan first but today I became a fan of Florida State and Alabama.  I had the opportunity to talk face to face with Jimbo Fisher and Rick Trickett today at Clay County High School which was hit hard by the recent flood.  Nick Saban sent a rep from his staff because he was speaking at the sec conference football days today.  They brought donations for Clay County High School, Herbert Hoover High School, Richwood High School and Richwood and Elkview Middle Schools.  All of those schools were hit hard by the flood and lost most or all their football and other athletic equipment.  Doc and Marshall University were also mentioned for the help they have provided.  The blue and yellow were not mentioned.

Me and my family lost nearly everything in the flood.  My 85 year old mother who is partially blind lost her home in the flood and would be homeless if it weren't for her children.  I sincerely appreciate these men for coming home to West Virginia and joining people like Doc Holiday helping kids many of whom are homeless.  Many of the kids these men are helping come from particularly poor families.  Richwood is a poor area.  Clay County was once and may still be the second poorest county in the second poorest state in the United States.

Thank you Doc Holiday, Jimbo Fisher, Rick Trickett and Nick Saban.  Thank you for helping kids and families in their time of need.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I've experienced floods myself; you can't replace the personal items that are lost. Hopefully, everyone was safe.

A big thanks to those coaches helping out.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • My father-in-law was born and raised in Clay Country.  Lineville to be exact.  I'm so sorry to hear about your situation.

  • I pray that God comforts your family.
WVA, throughout history, has had wonderful, caring, sensitive citizens with strong family values.
I feel blessed to have grown up there and try to retain those values and pass them on.

My thanks as well to all those who came through to help so much in this tragedy.
God bless us all as we are all in this together.
    Go HERD!!!

What would be the most help to you in the immediate future?

  • Shovel operators to shove the 6" of the slipperiness, stickiest and heaviest mud out of my mother's house and yard.

    And

Contractors who will not double the cost of restoring my 85 year old mother's house or volunteers.  My house will get in order.  My mother, another story.

  • Anybody up for a work party?

I have commitments tomorrow, but can probably round up a couple of people for a road trip on Sunday.  Are you Elk River area or Greenbrier or Nicholas County? Elsewhere?  You can email specifics at fred(period)rader at herdalum(period)org

If other HerdFans would join in we might be able to make a little progress.
