The Gamecocks and the Herd haven’t played since Marshall’s second season back in the FBS ranks in 1998. In that game, legendary coach Lou Holtz led South Carolina and Marshall hit a late field goal to give the Herd a 24-21 victory in front of a stunned Williams-Brice Stadium crowd.
whoever wrote the article is wrong about Holtz being the coach. Brad Scott was the coach and he was fired at the end of the 98 season.
Either way. I'm very glad to be playing a winnable SEC game in Chase Litton's Senior year.
I think the writer got his/her info from the original press release as I read that same thing in another article somewhere.Either way. I'm very glad to be playing a winnable SEC game in Chase Litton's Senior year.
Thanks for trying to give me the benefit of the doubt. But, I was just going off my memory. I was 9 in 1998 and for some reason I've spent all these years thinking Holtz was there when we played them. I just got it wrong. I should have doubled checked the info but I was so sure I was right I didn't bother. Thanks for pointing out the error folks, I've corrected it and added a disclaimer to the story. I want to bring 100% accuracy to this blog and everything I put out for Marshall fans. Sometimes mistakes happen and this is one of those time. As a professionally trained journalist and one who spent time working in an actual newspaper I won't bulk when I mess up and I'll be quick to correct any mistakes. Accuracy is of the utmost importance to me and to building a relationship as a reliable source. If I mess up let me know and I will own it. But, also as a professionally trained journalist I knew better here and should have double checked my childhood memory. But, again thanks for pointing it out and thanks Flyhawk for trying to give me a pass. lol
