I hope the names come back.  Doc achieved his goal of changing team culture.  I'm sure he can keep the players playing as a team with their last name on the back of their jerseys.

I don't see Doc changing his philosophy about names on jerseys. I wish Doc would surprise the players for the Louisville game, instead of waiting until we make a bowl game.

If he had just been trying it out for a year or two, maybe.  But this is Doc's 7th year running our program now (time flies!)  I don't see him changing at this point.

He had names first couple years

Its a disservice to the fans. Personally, I have very poor vision and have to watch every play through binoculars. With names on the jerseys, I can tell who a player is. Without them, I'm left to guess.

That's what the big numbers on the front and on the back are for, to tell who the players are.

I'm with jstherd and 90% of Herd Fans, that want to see the names on jerseys. I was just talking to a few players that said, their families watching at home would appreciate seeing the family name on the back of their jerseys.

The dream of many players families to see their family name on the back of their son's college jersey.  Surely Doc can coach these players with names on the back of their jerseys.

They play for Marshall. Not Litton University, not Foster University, or Thompson University if they want to play with their name on their jersey go somewhere else. It's been this way for years. Buy a program or print a roster from home if you need a reference.

So by your logic......Pennington, Leftwich, Brown, etc. all just played for their last name since it was on the back of their jersey, and only since Doc took away the names from the jerseys did the players actually play for Marshall University?

That was a different era. Imo today's players care more about the name on the back. Society has taught them to be that way. So Doc, being old school, did the only thing he could to make sure the guys play for the name on their chest.

I think it was more of a step in the change in culture from the Snyder era to the Doc era.  A new culture is in place now.  The players, family, and fans would like to see the names brought back.  Doc should still be able to coach them, and keep the team culture in check with their names on the backs of their jerseys.

I personally would like to see their names but I think that there should at least be "Marshall" or "The Herd"  on their back to define offense and defense. That would make a statement!

I appreciate your desire to make the case, but pardon me if I think that's a little over the top. Their dream is simply to see their kid get on the field, even if there wasn't even a number on the uni. Perhaps you could poll them all and find a personal preference for names on the back of jerseys, but then, perhaps you'd also find that most ultimately would defer the decision to the head coach's best judgment over their own.

I'm OK with it either way. I like the what Doc is doing with instilling in them Marshall is the name that matters most. Plus it should help sell a few more programs on game days  ;)

I like this practice.  As coach of the Miracle on Ice hockey team Herb Brooks said,"the name on the front is a helluva lot more important than the name on the back".  Look up the numbers on your program.  It won't take long to learn them. ;)

Yep, you can always go to Herdzone and print them off if you don't know them
