A word of advice based on first person experience. Find a physician, or better yet group practice, that specializes in geriatric medicine. In our situation, my mother’s IRC got way out of whack while she was recovering from a broken back. I was in frequent contact with her doctor’s office who didn’t call for any extra blood tests or change her coumadin dose. When things got bad I took her to the WVU emergency room at apparently a little earlier in the process then you were able to do with your Mom. Her INR was 24. They hung three units of vitamin K and a unit of plasma. Next morning, she had made remarkable recovery.
