  • I really hate to say this, because I like the kids on the basketball team and think they play hard and with a lot of effort, but any hope that this style can win anything is fool's gold.  Yes, if we are hot from 3 land then we will hang with anyone.  That might even get us an unexpected great win occasionally, but for tournament basketball, where you have to be hot 3 or 4 nights in a row - just don't see it happening.

  • I agree.

We make no adjustments. Our guys get selfish and start firing up contested 3 pointers just because they haven't shot the ball the last two trips down the floor.

I'm losing faith to be honest.

Be patient. Pitt is a tough squad and on the road is really tough. Also coming off a heartbreaker in Cincinnati made this game over before it started. I expect them to roll in conference play, and we aren't winning the national title this season, but we have a legit chance to play for it at least in the ncaa tourney.

  • I thought they came out flat. I think conference play will be different. Pitt is a strong athletic team.

  • We can't beat a team with a heartbeat on the road...period.

May get a couple of the bad CUSA teams but this team needs adjustments to their road prep because they don't come ready to play.

What ever happened to pressuring on defense to setup easy transition points? We don't play defense at all. I like watching this team, I really do but it's awful watching us get smoked by every decent team we play.

  • Need to get better defensively for sure but let's see what happens in conference play.

  • Years ago when Arkansas' Nolan Richardson and his team went to their first final four, they had to play a loaded UNLV team.  The Rebels' Larry Johnson took the opening tip and went right down the lane executed a monstrous slam dunk.  Running back up the court he passed by the Razorbacks' bench and yelled at their coaching staff, "You all need to get yourselves some men!

That's what Coach Richardson went out and did.  Marshall needs to do the same.

I'll take Corliss Williamson. Levi Cook would help.

I agree 100%. This basketball team is the round ball version of Air Parrish.  Shoot 100 threes and on some nights you get close for awhile.  This style of play is a Mirage.    DD might be a good guy and all, however his style will never win on a big scale.

  • It's really just a watered down, not fully committed, edition of what Loyola Marymount was doing back in the 80s. They went faster and scored a lot more.  They won a lot of games, until they played schools with better athletes.

  • I have to say one thing. We finally saw something that resembled a press defense after we were down 25+ and guess what....we crawled back in the game.

Great job to the guys for sticking with it but hopefully we'll see us start playing defense for more than 1/4 a game.

You put Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble on this team and they win a ton of games. If Gathers didn't die they would have a had a hell of chance to reach the Final Four that year. They could have beaten Vegas who was unbeatable that year.

  • Final 112 to 106. Herd spanked Pitt in the 2nd half. Have to play complete games.

The reason we are in these games we didnt use to be in, is free throw shooting. Unfortunately, Pitt couldn't miss from the line tonight either. However we used to struggle to Close games with leads due to dismal free throw shooting, and not everyone that has a lead on us late will make all their free throws either.

I like this team in CUSA. Should start 4-0 and climb to 11-6 befote our first real challenge

  • We scored 68 points in the 2nd half against a good ACC team. We should be pretty good in CUSA. We should always be able to get a good shot.

  • Well its been nice having you guys on the board , feel free to come back when we get a new coach , as long as hes winning of course .

The HERD was down 29 in the second half and end up losing by 6 , to me , that means adjustments were made and they worked . The comeback was made by good ol basketball , not gunning threes  , which is what we apparently only do . The HERD proved to me tonite they dont live and die by the three , which is what the experts on this board believe .

I agree. I think we made some adjustments in the second half and cut the lead down.  We started pressing and it helped. I wish we did that more. When I watched us at EKU we pressed them and came back quickly. We need to do it more.  Maybe we will in conference.

We are a true athletic Big man from being really good.  We have help coming there.  I wish DD would have brought some in earlier. I would think he would admit he should have done that as well.  I wish the two kids coming could play next year.  I think we do fine in CUSA.  Should be a fun conference season.

  • Well, we still get beat ridiculously inside by other teams' offenses.  Starts out front, where, despite offensive abilities, many of our guards get beat by their counterparts who get by them on first step straight into the lane, and on to the hole.  Lack of quickness by our bigs, except for Taylor, who can't defend everybody and is already foul prone, or marked by the refs.  Of course, getting Thompson back would/will help greatly in that area.  But in these close games, we can't give up such a disparity of points allowed in the paint.  How many times, tonight and in other losses, did Steve Cotton describe some opponent player taking the ball from out front all the way to the goal for a lay-up, dunk, etc., etc.

Good news, nothing ahead but CUSA teams!!  Which means many times we'll be playing teams WITH BARELY A PULSE.  18 CONFERENCE GAMES- -15 WINS OR SO SHOULD GET US INTO POST SEASON CONSIDERATION IF WE MAKE A DEEP RUN IN CONF. TOURNEY.  GO HERD!!

  • I think we need to play better team ball !! They Run down jack up a three when ever ! It's like we would rather take a bad shot than pass it off.. and Thompson was cleared weeks ago why isn't he playing? I just would like to see the team sit some picks for Loop and get him involved in the game more there is no way a kid that has worked his butt off at Marshall and is only 30 threes away from the record should be let down by his players! Taking nothing away from Burke but he let his team down by not going to class and not being able to play then he gets in and takes minutes away from players that have worked there butts off n the class room and on the court! And when players are shooting 18-20 times and making 6 !! Yes CJ had a good game to night that's true but he should have to work his way back. Coach wont even give Kilgore a chance.. and defense what defense tonight I saw CJ , Elmore and Allison part like the Red Sea and let Pitt make a lay up! Because they don't want a foul. I think we have talent but it has to be a team effort not a me ball game at the end of a game you always know Elmore will never give the ball up even if he throws it way! How many games have we lost because of him? EKU , UCinn  hope things change or we won't win ☹️️

  • Playing FAU and FIU on the road should be like playing on a neutral court as they will not have over 2000 fans at the game.We should win at least one of the games.
