Holliday said Vedvik's repetitions at kicker will not take away from his future as punter - a position he will continue to hold.

"He's going to be our punt guy, and to do that, you have to be careful with that, but I think he's a tremendous kid and tremendous athlete," Holliday said. "I think he can handle it."

When Vedvik came to Marshall as a kicker.

However, the pending graduation of longtime punter Tyler Williams in 2015 put the Herd in a situation where it needed a solidified punter. Therefore, Vedvik exited the three-man race for placekicking duties to concentrate on becoming Williams' backup and the heir apparent to the punting duties.

Amoreto Curraj and Nick Smith battled for the placekicking duties in 2016 with Curraj winning the spot, but Curraj hit just 4 of 10 field goal attempts, leaving Holliday in a position to re-open that battle.

Now, Vedvik will battle for the spot with Curraj and freshman Cole Phillips, who is a highly-regarded kicker from the Class of 2017.

Oh boy  ??? ??? ???   Just name Phillips the starter and call it a day.  Get him experience this year.  He can't do any worse.
